Hi Liz and Brody, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The following paragraphs are from our website, I feel this truly does explain a lot of our individual experience in the field as well as our goals for Archetype. When it comes to our personal life, we are a married couple with a 5 and 6 year old who you will often find at the studio with us. We have dreamed of Archetype for years, and when the opportunity came about, we dove head first. While Brody continued to work as a piercer in Columbus, working to get the studio ready to open on his weekends (sometimes without breaking for sleep,) I (Liz) was in the studio laying drywall mud, sanding, painting, decorating, while working with the health department and the state to ensure we are up to code. Our every free second went into our studio for three months, and it’s clear when you immerse yourself in our experience that this was a labor of love. Love for the industry, love for each other, and love for our clients. We have an intense passion for transforming how piercing is viewed- no longer an ancillary service at a tattoo shop, but an adornment journey where fine jewelry and body modification collide.
I’m Brody, the sole piercer and co-founder of Archetype Fine Jewelry and Body Piercing. With 19 years of piercing experience and a deep passion for the art of body modification, I’m thrilled to be back piercing in Cincinnati after dedicating the past two years to piercing in Columbus. Cincinnati is not only my professional hub, but it’s also my home, and I’m excited to reconnect with my valued clients and friends in this vibrant community.

As a mother of two, my life is a dynamic blend of nurturing a family and nurturing a dream. My journey into the world of fine jewelry and body piercing has been guided by my husband and co-founder, Brody, a desire to transform spaces and bodies, to elevate styles and celebrate individuality. I have been apprenticing under my husband, Brody, and I’ve recently started accepting my own ear lobe piercing appointments. I look forward to having a positive impact on the industry, and I’m thankful I get to be a part of its evolving.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
struggles? Never heard of ’em 😉
Literally anything that could go wrong, did. We didn’t take any business loans to open Archetype, and we didn’t have enough time to apply for grants, we didn’t even really have time to consider if we would qualify for them. So we opened with the bare minimum. Thankfully we had the generosity of family and friends to help. The takeaway? It’s ours. Now, we owe some family and industry friends a kidney and others our first born, but, we are lucky they love us and trust in our ability to make Archetype flourish 😉 Gold is (and was) at an all time high, roughly $2600/ ounce I believe (+/-) and we were getting ready to open a business not only focused on gold jewelry, but ensuring that the gold we purchased was not only ethically sourced but affordable for us and our clients. We did it, though, and we did it without compromise.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Brody: Brody is the piercer and co-owner of Archetype. As a member of the Association of Professional Piercers, Brody upholds the highest industry standards. Brody specializes in ear curations. He is known for his skill, honest and thorough approach, and for being respectful and gentle. He never puts monetary gain before the integrity of his work, letting you know if your anatomy is appropriate for a piercing. I ( Liz) am his apprentice, and I’m very fortunate to have him training me. We work mostly tool-less, and I’m excited I get to learn by free hand technique. This is helping me hone my skills, albeit a little more challenging at times. Our approach isn’t totally new, but definitely newer to Cincinnati. For the longest time piercing was just an ancillary service at local tattoo shops, but we hope to bring the world of fine jewelry meets body modification to Cincinnati. We have immense respect for tattooers, our bodies are adorned head to toe with tattoos, but we do think the two careers should be separate. We also wanted to eliminate some of the intimidation that piercing shops have by making our environment fun and super welcoming. When you come into Archetype you immediately smile. You’re met with my hot pink panther coffee table and hot pink neon blow up couch. We have a neon lit wavy mirror and a Danny DeVito head plant pot in our windows. The windows are currently adorned for Pride in rainbow drawings from a couple friends of mine. The walls to the piercing room are painted in a 90’s print (a number of our clients have dubbed the ” Saved by the bell wall.”) I wanted you to feel like you can come here with your friends, your kids, your mom and grandma. I worked very hard to make this a fun and inviting space where everyone feels safe to express themselves freely. The intimidation is outdated and unnecessary.
Pricing:
- $50 service fee for one piercing and $25 for any additional plus jewelry. Downsize service and recheck are included in the service fee.
- Apprentice earlobe piercings are currently available. The service fee is $25 plus the cost of jewelry.
