Conversations with Fredrick Hunter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fredrick Hunter

Hi Fredrick, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It’s been a long journey to this point. The film was growing on me subconsciously throughout my childhood. I had no idea I was absorbing so much of it, from my mother constantly playing Denzel Washington Films to me studying what made him such a tremendous actor. I didn’t take the traditional route to finding my passion for acting. No drama school nor school plays because I was such a jock (athlete) in high school; I really couldn’t see myself doing anything else. (Which led to a football scholarship). But I didn’t tell anyone that in HS, when drama would perform plays, I would sneak in the back door and observe and take in the energy before practice. That’s where my love for the craft started. I didn’t take a shot until the most unfortunate time for us all: Quarantine; during those long days stuck inside with the family, my son, and nephews would watch TikToks doing those silly dances and making funny videos. Being a goofball as well, I joined along, and one night, I came across an actor doing a monologue; at that very moment, I was hooked and had to attempt my own. After countless videos, I got pretty good at reenacting my favorite scenes from films and even received some high praise from a Hollywood director/producer (I won’t say his name), but that was enough for me to start going at this full steam and to start to audition. It’s been history ever since, and I’ve been in love with every bit of the process, the Ups and the constant Downs; the love never leaves! What made me realize this could be was the genuine bliss I felt on set, how the hairs on my arm stood up every time I heard “action!” Or how I would be at work listening to actors’ roundtable episodes and audiobooks such as “The Actors Art and Craft – William Esper, Damon Dimarco,” which taught me so much! I love and respect this craft so much, and I can only see myself living actively and going after more and more roles!

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For an actor actively auditioning, everything is always smooth. It’s one of the most challenging businesses to be a part of, but if that fire and desire for the craft burns like mine, nothing will derail your fight for the next one! I’ve been overlooked countless times or not taken seriously because of my nontraditional route, which I expected. The most challenging part is the battle between living within my dream and balancing real-life issues such as bills, work, and time with my son. People look at you crazy when you’re taking such a gamble in their eyes, yet in my mind, it feels like what God blessed me to do. To tell stories within the art form of acting. I know it will pay off. I want to make my little man and nephews proud, you know?

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well, my night job is as an Amazon associate. But I’m starting to make my name known slightly as an actor, which feels good. The fact that you guys reached out is an honor on its own. Regarding what I specialize in when booked, I deliver memorable characters, which I work out constantly during pre-production and every day leading into the first day of filming. I’m tireless in providing the character I was brought on board to be and making the director’s job easier by knowing they have a professional in front of them. I’m very proud of that, and my passion and tenacity within my character set me apart. I aim to make every person on set and viewers who happen to watch go through emotions with my acting. In my upcoming role in “My America,” produced by FourStudios & Red Bicycle Media, folks will be taken on a ride emotionally. Very proud of that performance. And working with them guys cast and crew!
