Today we’d like to introduce you to David Vance.
Hi David, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started producing in 2011 at 14, after my friend Julian introduced me to Fl Studio. My parents were avid fans of hair metal and country music, and I remember wanting to be in a band from a young age. As I grew older, I tried out a few bands with friends who had gained an interest in music, but I always found myself taking it more seriously than the other bandmates. When I discovered production, I fell in love immediately. The thought of not needing to rely on others to create songs was instantly freeing. My main passions in music surround songwriting and arrangement, and I love being able to develop ideas quickly. I enjoy producing but focus more on creating music than mixing and mastering. I started performing as a Dj in February of 2020 with the help of Xodia Media Group. I quickly rose through the ranks and earned a slot in the flagship show series, Space Camp. Playing shows throughout the Midwest allowed me to make friends and fans. This also allowed me to meet some key people who helped introduce my music to much bigger artists. I landed a collaboration with Dion Timmer, which helped to springboard my career as a singer, songwriter, and producer. My biggest musical inspirations are Never Shout Never, George Jones, Bryan Adams, and Flux Pavilion.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Unfortunately, in 2011, shortly after I began producing music, I was diagnosed with Cancer. I underwent a few surgeries and had to do radiation therapy. I’m blessed to have beat it, but that period in my life was pretty tough. The music provides some incredible moments, but sometimes, it can feel pretty isolating.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Harrison Vance?
Outside of music, I’m blessed to co-own a business with one of my best friends, Chris Harris. We met through music and instantly became friends. We consult to help other companies sell their products and services to targeted markets. I love owning a sales and consulting-based consulting-based business because it allows me to meet other entrepreneurs and forces me to socialize. I’m also a part of Xodia Media Group and am blessed to help build the electronic music scenes throughout Ohio and Kentucky.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” This is a motto I have lived by for several years. I’m blessed to be on this journey with an incredible team, but I remind myself daily to stay focused on the mission to see the project succeed. “David Vance” may seem like it’s just me and a laptop, but there is much more than meets the eye. My team comprises a handful of other creatives who help inspire the brand’s music, image, and emotion. My media team includes Gunnar Bernhart, Virgil Robinson, and Jason Crockett. I also work closely on music with Chris Harris, Jeff Martin, and Brannan Cinnamon. Having a group of brutally honest guys helps to ensure I’m releasing songs that will stand the test of time. I’m also blessed to work with Jon Sedlak and Kris Reish, who are incredible 3D artists.
