Today we’d like to introduce you to Zachary Sinutko. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Originally starting my career in the music industry in Metro Detroit, Zachary ‘DJ Z13’ Sinutko now lives in Cleveland, Ohio & works as a radio/live event DJ & on-air personality. Starting his radio career at WJCU 88.7 FM on the campus of John Carroll University, Zachary Sinutko is now a full-time commercial radio DJ. While continuing his career to this very day at WJCU, Zach joined the WQMX crew out in Akron, Ohio, doing country radio in early 2022. Zach then transitioned into his passion for rap & RnB music by moving from Rubber City Radio Group to Radio One Cleveland, working for Z1079 WENZ & 93.1 WZAK as a mixer, producer & board operator. Zachary Sinutko works at Z1079 to this day on ‘The Day Party’ with Ro Digga & DJ Ryan Wolf doing producing and digital content. During all this, he continued his time at WJCU 88.7 FM with his show 808s & Mixtapes. 808s & Mixtapes is the #1 most award-winning show in WJCU history, with 16 national & international award nominations alongside multiple first-place placements & a Guinness World Record for the World’s Longest Radio Interview. With a city holiday titled ‘808 Day’ proclaimed by the mayor of University Heights in 2023, 808s & Mixtapes has continued to see success for the 3 years they’ve been on air.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The struggles come in many forms. With people coming and going from 808s & Mixtapes alongside transitioning from being the director of promotions and events to the director of events for WJCU, change is imminent. Change is always going to happen; it is up to us to decide how we adapt and learn from that changes. There have been many ups and downs, both in person and on-air, for DJ Z13 & the crew.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Before radio, working in live event photography, Zachary Sinutko has experience shooting for a wide range of celebrities. Some notable people on his portfolio include doing photography work for Taylor Swift, Eminem, Paul McCartney, The Foo Fighters, KISS, Tyler The Creator, Dr. Dre, Lollapalooza, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & more. Transitioning into radio, Zachary Sinutko took these connections to his podcasts ‘I Hate Rappers’ (discussing what he and his co-host Greggy Westside of Westside Productions love & hate about the rap industry), ‘Botch This’ a wrestling podcast that Zachary Sinutko alongside Crisis of Z1079 do, & 808s & Mixtapes on WJCU. Notable interview guests for Zachary Sinutko include Trippie Redd, Lil Mosey, DDG, Waka Flocka Flame, Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Kent Jones, The Temptations, Hoodie Allen, Muhammad Ali’s promoter Don King, and many others.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
