Today we’d like to introduce you to David Maffei.
Hi David, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Ohio in 1992, and in 1996, the opportunity to start a band that would be part of Perfect World Entertainment was presented to me by the president of PWE, who was a lifelong friend and a person that I played in my first bands with…We began, there were not many places having live bands and being a new band, we had to play out of town. The first year, we played every Wednesday in Pittsburgh, every Thursday in Portage Lakes, and every Saturday in Buffalo, NY. It was in Buffalo that I met my wife, and we are Celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this year! Through consistent performing and marketing and playing every show we could, we were able to build the following we now enjoy today! We average over 140 shows a year, and we are the only cover band to Headline major shows such as Twilight at the Zoo, Rockin’ on the River, and River Rock at the Amp!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Very Challenging! When we started, there were many copycat bands that popped up, thinking that they only needed to wear afros and platform shoes to be a Disco Band. So, we were getting undercut on the pricing at many shows. Also, there is always turnover in bands, and a lot of musicians aren’t able to travel and play that many shows per year, so getting the members we have today was a long process. Also, the time commitment I have had to make to get Disco Inferno where it is today, I have had to miss many events that my daughter had in order to play the shows.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
70’s Disco band. I am the guitarist and leader of the band, and I handle all the social media and assist with the booking of the band. I think our passion and energy we bring on stage is second to none… Full-time Realtor with Howard Hanna Realty. Love helping people find their dream home!!!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Playing on stage for the fans is my happy place. To see the numbers that show up to our shows and the joy we bring makes me the happiest!!! Helping people buy and sell homes!!!
