Hi Tara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Me and my business partner took over the building that is now Yellow Cab Tavern in 2011. It was the former home of the Yellow Cab taxi company and had sit empty for several years. We spent the first couple of years holding art shows with the arts group we were members of. They were very fun and successful events, but we knew that we wanted even more. So, we decided to renovate the space and install a bar so that we could become a tavern and stay open year-round. In 2017, we earned our liquor license and opened up officially as Yellow Cab Taven. Since then, we have continued to host many artists and musicians. We have also been able to create a beautiful bar that serves local craft brews and delicious cocktails. As the bar manager, I have been happy to promote inclusivity and a focus on community. We pride ourselves on being a fun and safe space for everyone. It has also been so much fun to see so much unique art in our gallery space and amazing music on our indoor and patio stages.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to today has not been easy. Renovations of the space were costly and time-consuming. Since it had formerly house the taxi company, we had a lot of clean-up to do and a lot of new features to install. We also had to go through the pandemic in our third year of being open. That time was very stressful as we had to make sure we could survive financially and come out the other side intact with our wonderful loyal employees.

Fortunately, with the support of our community, we were able to survive all of these challenges!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In addition to being one of the owners of Yellow Cab Tavern, I am also the bar manager. I am responsible for the employees, the bar menu, and any necessary behind-the-scenes planning. I think I am most known for being a welcoming presence at the bar which has given me the nickname of Mom. I pride myself on my customer service and love meeting new customers every day.
