Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydia Troy.

Lydia Troy

Hi Lydia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Art has been a constant in my life, and in 2022, I reignited my love for painting after a hiatus. After losing my brother in 2017, my biggest art supporter, picking up the paintbrush again became a deeply personal journey, a way to navigate through the void his absence left. Once I had my own space, I naturally gravitated back to my creative haven, and to my surprise, my paintings started flying off the shelves. Encouraged by this, I extended my passion for creating custom pieces for local folks, adding a personal touch to their homes through my art. It’s not just about painting; it’s about weaving my story into every stroke of the brush. It’s been such a healing journey for me and a passion that I don’t see ever leaving my side. I’ve been extremely grateful for the community here in Cleveland and how they graciously support local creators and appreciate craftmanship.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Embarking on the journey of establishing an art business has brought its share of challenges and obstacles. While art has always been my medium for self-expression, I’ve learned that patience is crucial, especially when deciphering my clients’ desires. The key lies in being flexible and open to adjustments, striving to deliver my absolute best for each painting. However, maintaining this level of dedication is not always a walk in the park. Achieving the right mood and mindset to create a truly special piece demands full immersion. Navigating through these challenges has been a beautiful yet mentally demanding journey, pushing me out of my comfort zone. Despite the hurdles, this experience has not only shaped me as an artist but has also contributed significantly to my personal growth.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a versatile creator with a passion for various forms of art, including fashion, interior design, architecture, painting, culture, and music. My work is a reflection of my deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, often inspired by elements like moss on rocks, the glistening of water, and the vibrant hues of sunrises and sunsets. I am forever grateful for my existence on this earth, and so I’ve curated my artistic style through these natural wonders. Additionally, I draw inspiration from design, finding beauty in people’s styles and home environments. To ensure my art complements its surroundings, I often request photos of the space where it will live. What sets me apart is my ability to adapt to different styles while staying true to my artistic identity. I take pride in understanding others’ desires and crafting pieces that resonate with them. For me, art is not a job; it’s a fulfilling passion that I always want to enjoy. My best work emerges from the right mindset, and I give myself the space to take breaks when needed, ensuring my creativity remains vibrant and authentic.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my standout childhood memories is wrapped in the incredible support from my parents for all things creative. I was perpetually excited about diving into new art projects, whether it was painting, helping Mom bake, watching Dad in the woodshop, or starting any artistic endeavor that caught my interest. My hands were consistently messy, and my creative vibes were always flowing. If I wanted to learn pottery or sew a dress, I went for it. Alongside the artistic adventures, my parents made sure history was part of the growing-up experience. Our vacations in Williamsburg, Virginia, were more than just trips—they were immersive lessons in appreciating handcrafted work and styles from different eras. These experiences not only shaped my deep love for creativity but also fueled my admiration for the unique artistry woven into personal expression and where we’ve come from historically.
