Daily Inspiration: Meet Allyson Fronk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allyson Fronk.

Allyson Fronk

Hi Allyson, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got started with basic brush lettering style calligraphy in 2018 and soon after learned how to incorporate my calligraphy and illustration skills on my iPad. I’ve always loved helping friends and family with weddings and bridal showers, and I found countless ways to use my calligraphy skills to support my loved ones on their special days. My favorite part of the showers I helped with was creating hand-lettered signage. Weddings require a lot of signage like welcome signs, seating charts, and table numbers, and I love the challenge of making these signs both functional and beautiful. In 2021, I officially started The Pemberley Creative, my lettering and calligraphy business. I have loved having the opportunity to serve my clients with my calligraphy and illustration skills.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have had an Etsy shop selling various hand-lettered items since 2016, so I was aware of many of the challenges that running a small business can present when I launched my calligraphy business. But with The Pemberley Creative, I wanted to focus more on clients local to the Columbus area, and I have had to learn and grow both myself and my business in new ways to make that a reality. In the process, I have discovered how exciting and rewarding it is to connect with local clients and to see my work in the community.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The main focus of my work is wedding calligraphy signs. I have created welcome signs, seating charts, table numbers, menus, place cards, and more on surfaces such as acrylic, wood, mirrors, chalkboards – even fabric! I pride myself in having a great understanding of how to letter on different kinds of surfaces of all shapes and sizes in a way that will match the couple’s vision. Additionally, all of my signs are custom-made for each client – I love the challenge of working from a couple’s inspiration board for their wedding and creating unique signage that matches what they are looking for. I prefer to do my hand lettering and calligraphy sketches digitally, which makes it quick and easy for me to send and get feedback from my couples on their sign mockups.

Lately, I’ve been branching out into larger-scale projects, such as menu boards and murals for businesses and organizations in my local community. One of my favorite projects from 2023 was designing and lettering the menu boards for Hilliard Station Baking Company. It was really satisfying to see my work at home in a local business, and I appreciated all of the positive feedback I got from the owners and their customers.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the COVID-19 crisis?
If I learned anything from the pandemic, it was that we should not take our communities for granted. I’m a natural introvert, but spending so much time away from other human beings was difficult in a way that I had never experienced before. Now that things have mostly returned to normal; I make an effort to better appreciate the communities I am involved in, especially my church community.
