Conversations with Leah Morgan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Morgan.

Leah Morgan

Hi Leah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got my associate’s degree in Interior Design right out of high school. However, I didn’t feel comfortable to go straight into design because I had a baby the year before. I couldn’t find any jobs that would pay me enough, have flexible scheduling for me to work, and pay for babysitting. I went into the service industry, where I could work nights, and my mom would babysit my daughter. I did this for 15 years until I decided to follow my real passion which was art and design. I got a job with 2 woman who had started a small business setting up eclectic and vintage furniture at weddings and events. We worked in a large warehouse packing and unpacking furniture, tabletop decor, and anything else imaginable to create breathtaking events. That’s where I cultivated my organizational skills for large space design. Everything in the warehouse had to be categorized to make things easy to find and be visually beautiful. We had clients and vendors constantly scouring our warehouse for unique and beautiful items to make their event stand out. When Covid hit we were shut down and that’s when I decided to organize people’s homes as a way to mix my love for interior design and organizing. Streamline to design is my passion coming together, and it’s the perfect fit.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. It’s been about grit and determination and deciding I was worth believing in. It’s been a self-love journey. I have been a single mother of 3, so finding time to work and be there for my kids is always a balancing act. Also starting a business, you also have to work other jobs bc your business doesn’t just start making money right away. The constant hustle to make ends meet and deciding that your family and yourself are always worth fighting for.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Professional organizing is newer to the scene, and I don’t think people fully understand the difference between a house cleaner and a professional organizer. A house cleaner cleans dirt, bathrooms, mops floors. A professional organizer goes through your things, helps you de-clutter, and then organizes the items back in zones so that your items have individual homes. This creates a flow that allows you to feel at peace in your space. It’s easy to clean up when you know where everything goes. I also help people rearrange their furniture and help them make design choices they are struggling with. I think what sets me apart is my personality. I really become friends with my clients, we share personal stories as we go through their life of things. It almost feels more like I’m a sister, although nicer, that can tell you the truth and help you get to the next chapter.

I think I’m most proud of starting a business I’m so passionate about! Organizing people’s spaces is honestly my favorite thing to do!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
The woman in my life have been my biggest support! My Mom who has always helped me with free babysitting, love, and support to believe in myself. She was also my first and only financial investor! My sister Karly, who has been my biggest fan, cheerleader, support, and honest critic. Without her, I would never have believed in myself enough.

Amber and Emma, who were the small business I worked for who taught me anything is possible. Sheer grit and determination will get you there and woman can thrive in business too.

And over all my family who hired me for projects and let me start building my portfolio.
