Today we’d like to introduce you to Brensha Searcy.

Brensha Searcy

Brensha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’d always been in the corporate world, dreaming of breaking free and having my own business. I always had an interest in makeup and always received compliments on my brows – which took me forever to draw on daily! One day, while browsing on Instagram, I kept seeing photos of microblading, which initially piqued my interest. After doing some research, I found out that in Ohio, I could take a class and become certified & start my own business doing permanent makeup. In 2019, I found a microblading class and decided to invest in training. In 2020, I was so busy with clients that I was able to pursue my business full-time! Fast forward to 2023, I am running a successful PMU clinic & PMU school.  My prior corporate background in employee training & development, as well as my degree in Biology/Chemistry, have shaped me into a PMU educator that understands the needs of students & how important it is for them to approach this industry with a growth mindset that enables them to think critically.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not easy! It was very hard in the beginning not having a mentor or someone in the PMU industry who could help steer me in the right direction. Taking a 2-day class is not sufficient education for learning permanent makeup. Learning how to work on different skin types, needles, pigments, & the other technical aspects were difficult in the beginning. However, I continued to educate myself & study to perfect my craft. Due to my own experience in seeing the lack of quality PMU education for new artists this helped to fuel my passion and heavy involvement in the educational sector. Looking back, overall it’s been a smooth ride & extremely rewarding!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My goal as a PMU educator is to raise the bar for PMU education in the state. I am the only PMU Educator in Cleveland, Ohio to be an AAM Board Certified Trainer (American Academy of Micropigmentation) with an approved 100hr AAM Fundamentals Program. This is important as PMU training is unregulated in the state of Ohio, which most consumers are unaware of. This means that it is critical for aspiring students to do their due diligence on training programs. As the field of Permanent Cosmetics continues to expand, it is critical that trainers be held to higher standards in the education of new artists. New artists must leave fundamental training programs with standard levels of competency and continued mentorship & support. Be Browed Etcetera Academy is the first and only PMU school in the state of Ohio to have an approved certificate program by the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges & Schools. Additionally, students have the option to complete an apprenticeship program where they receive additional hands-on training & each client case is reviewed for satisfactory completion.

As an artist, I am most known for Powder Ombré Brows, Lip Blushing, Lip Neutralization, Inkless Stretchmark & Scar Camouflage services.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Permanent Makeup is making its mark in the beauty industry! In 5-10 years, I see Continued positive growth for the industry. In regards to PMU education, I do feel that training regulations & licensing requirements will become stricter.
