Exploring Life & Business with Jasmine Ruff of Blush The Event Loft

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Ruff.

Jasmine Ruff

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started as an event planner, decorating baby showers and birthday parties. I was helping others for free until I realized I was actually working a lot doing parties and should charge for my work. Maybe 5-6 years in as a business owner, I purchased Blush The Event Loft from another planner and made it my own. She guided me as much as she could remotely, but I just let things take off and changed things as they came along. I’m still changing things every day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been pretty smooth; there have been some bumps along the way. However I’ve managed to ride things out. Covid was the worse culprit. Being unable to host events and still having to pay the rent was crazy. It was a huge struggle, but I made it work. I was working a full-time job, so I used my income for Blush’s bills. Now I only have my business income to rely on, so let’s cross our fingers that doesn’t happen again.

I actually moved to my current location in the middle of Covid, and it was scary, but I had faith that God would see me through, and my renovation was completed just in time for the world to open back up lol.

Dealing with people can be overwhelming, especially in this climate where everyone is trying to take advantage of one another. I try my best to treat my clients with respect and take on their events as if they are my own, and that is what helps me the most.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
Blush The Event Loft is an event venue located downtown Cincinnati. We specialize in small social events such as baby showers, bridal showers, birthdays, and small weddings. We seat up to 80 guests. I love that my venue provides a space for families to gather together to celebrate their milestones and enjoy each other’s company. In addition to being a space for celebrating it also provides a welcoming space to other small business owners, such as caterers and other event decorators. I have met a lot of small business owners who have started out at Blush and flourished in their entrepreneurial career.

Every year in December, I host a Vision Board Brunch where 40 women come together and celebrate their accomplishments and set goals for next year. This is one of the events I look forward to every year. I do not typically like to be on the front of an event; I typically play the behind-the-scenes role, but this event allows me to step out of my comfort zone and empower myself as well as the other women.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next few years, there will be a surplus of event venues. However, there will be many changes that will alter how things are done, allowing the customer to customize their experience with each venue.
