Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Rahim.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I believe my journey started at birth. I truly believe everything I went through in my life led me to where I am now. Every event, every loss, every trauma. I believe my life was designed this way so that I could use everything I’ve been through to help others through their own trials and challenges. I’ve been working in mental health since 2012, when I got my bachelor’s in social work. I began my career in Child Protective Services and went on to work for mental health agencies, foster care agencies, and in the hospital, addressing mental health needs of adults and children. As I became a mother at 19, I had a special passion for mothers and babies who were struggling in these systems. Instead of connecting to resources, I wanted to get to the root of their issues. I went back to school for my Master’s degree in 2015 after I had my third child. I finished in 2018, and as I walked across the stage, I was carrying my 4th baby. His pregnancy was rough. I had gestational diabetes. When I delivered him, I was working in maternal and child health. I was in meetings hearing about the health disparities in black women and children during birth & postpartum. Due to this, I did my own research and decided to labor at home. I made it to the hospital in enough time to push, and he was delivered on his own. His Father caught him because the nurse left the room despite me telling her the baby was coming. We aren’t listened to! I’m glad it happened that way now, looking back. After his birth, two of my closest friends experienced the deaths of their babies- 2 weeks after I gave birth to my baby. September 25, 2018. The day was earth-shattering. I became a doula directly after and started my business. In 2020 everyone’s mental and physical health was suffering due to the pandemic and being in isolation. I started doing Private Practice therapy and fell in love with it. I have been doing it ever since. It is truly my calling. These events led me to starting Heal You Whole You LLC. I realized that we as people have a lot of healing work to do. I wanted to have a one-stop shop for all things healing. I went through a divorce in 2020 as well, and it sparked my spiritual awakening. I started to discover who I am and why my soul chose to incarnate at this time. I realized all my pain had a purpose and that my soul’s mission was to help others heal and connect with their own souls. That’s where I am now, living out my soul’s mission. Helping other souls align their mind, body, and soul through therapy, holistic spiritual practices such as readings, meditations, and yoga, doula services, and plant-based eating to heal the body at a cellular level. That’s where Heal You Whole You comes from – healing not just one part of you but the whole you. We sometimes focus on nutrition and not our mental, or we go to therapy but don’t change our eating habits. We may workout but don’t have any connection to God. I want to help everyone align them all!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This road has been anything but smooth! Some of the challenges for me include being a single mother, having to navigate my own healing journey while raising up 4 humans and helping them be the best they can be. I’ve lost friends, distanced myself from family members, had some toxic relationships I’ve had to detach from. I’ve even relocated within the last year! It’s definitely been a journey. It’s like I am getting on-the-job training lol. I am learning and growing as I go while also helping others. I tell myself all the time, I realize that everything that happens to me happens for me. God allows me to go through tough times because as soon as I overcome them, now I have clients coming to me fighting those same battles and seeking support! It’s amazing how that works!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a licensed clinical therapist. I see clients one on one virtually to help them dissect issues in their lives and gain a better understanding of themselves and their life experiences. I specialize in childhood trauma, anxiety/depression, relationship discord, spirituality, codependency, attachment issues, and motherhood/parenting. I also do Spiritual Coaching for people who are looking for a more spiritual experience, such as mindfulness, meditation, spiritual readings, wanting to learn about their soul’s purpose, read their birth chart, chakra work, and energy clearing. I am a postpartum and birth doula, so I am able to support families from pregnancy to postpartum and help them feel empowered to have the experience they’d like and know all of the options available to them. I am most proud of my connection to God. I really am doing the work of Spirit. I am highly intuitive, empathic, and able to read energy very well. I am able to use my gifts to educate and empower people to tap into their own spiritual gifts and powers, which improves their relationship with themselves, and this spills over into having better relationships with others and living a better quality of life! I think what sets me apart is that I am able to focus on the whole being, not just the mental piece, not just the physical wellness, but I am able to see the entire being, their environment, and how everything in their life has pieced together to make them who they are today. Once we identify that, we can set goals to get them to who they want to be going forward. My services are holistic and Spirit-led; I use my knowledge and training, but also God, my spirit guides, and ancestors are also backing me! That’s amazing!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is taking care of my needs. For so long, I looked outside of myself for happiness. I looked to friends, male partners, church, my kids, money, even food for happiness. As I’ve gone on this journey and gotten closer to God, which brought me closer to myself, I have been able to learn that everything I need to make me happy is within me. Happiness for me looks like going to the river for a day with some fruit and my journal. Seeing my kids laugh and play makes me happy. Yoga makes me happy. Singing and dancing makes me happy. Seeing people live their lives freely and with purpose makes me happy!
