Today we’d like to introduce you to Beau Guilliams. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Ravens Glenn was started by Robert & Renee Guilliams, who are the current owner Beau (Tracy) Guilliams parents. The Guilliams planted their first grapes in 1997; 10 varieties, but then narrowed down to 3 varietals that were best suited for Ohio climate/soil. In 2003 they began harvesting for the first time for estate wine production using the 3 grapes; chardonel, Vidal Blanc & Noiret. In the beginning, they hand bottled and labeled the wine, which was approximately 2500 gallons or 13000 bottles of wine a year, and self-distributed to local stores. We now produce 16,000 cases of wine per year with 3 distribution companies selling to over 1000 Ohio stores.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is a smooth road when owning your own business. Through hard work, dedication, and the will to never give up, we have been very successful.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Wine & winemaking. Raven’s Glenn wines have won over 200 medals throughout our 20 years of production.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I don’t consider myself a big risk taker, but I always weigh out the pros/cons of every situation. I also like to do my research and make sure I’m within my own limitations and see if/how I can make it work.
