Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Blosser.
Nicole, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my career in health care as an occupational therapy assistant and pursued a bachelor’s degree in public health. I intended to go into health care administration – although I have always had a soft spot for pregnancy, maternal health, and infancy. In 2012, my husband, Jason, finished his degree in diagnostic medical sonography. He worked in diagnostic ultrasound upon graduation, and after a few years, we decided to open an elective ultrasound business together. He is our lead sonographer, and I run the business end of things.
We opened Meet Your Miracle in Boardman, Ohio, in 2015. We started with a small, mobile 3D ultrasound machine. Over the years, we were able to reinvest into our business to upgrade equipment as well as our space. We also opened a second office in the Cleveland area (Parma Heights, Ohio) in fall of 2022. Both of our offices are able to accommodate 15 guests plus the expecting mom so they can enjoy their experience with their friends and family. Both offices offer HD imaging to see baby in the highest definition possible.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I doubt many business owners would say the road has always been smooth. The first two to three years of a self-funded startup are always challenging. I had to learn to wear many hats – IT, marketing director, website developer, customer service, accountant. You start out not knowing what you don’t know, but over time, you learn to adapt and acquire the skills needed to be successful. We were able to use local resources that have been invaluable to us as a small start-up. Valley Partners, a non-profit economic development center, has been such a fantastic partner in small-business funding. The Small Business Development Center in YSU was also very helpful, assisting us with business plan development, projections, and growth strategies. Finally, the Emerging Leaders program through SBA offered me and other small business owners in the area the opportunity to take classes specifically made for small business owners. These resources gave me the skills and tools I needed to weather the COVID storm. Though, like many businesses, we had to close our doors for several months, we were able to come back strong.

Meet Your Miracle is an elective ultrasound business. We provide safe, high-quality ultrasound imaging to expectant parents. We have offices in Boardman, Ohio, and Parma Heights, Ohio. Both offices have a large, comfortable suite with couches for the family and 2 large screen televisions so everyone can get a great view of baby. We have room for 15 guest, so our moms can bring whoever they want with them. In addition to 2D, 3D/4D, and HD ultrasounds, we also offer high-quality keepsake items such as Heartbeat Keepsakes custom heartbeat jewelry, and heartbeat animals. We also offer early gender determination DNA testing, so moms can find out of baby is a boy or girl as early as 7 weeks.
The thing I am most proud of is our relationship with our moms! We have had the opportunity now to see moms throughout several pregnancies – one mom has shared 6 pregnancies with us! Most of our clients find us through word of mouth, and our Google reviews are so supportive.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
We have had it all – good luck, bad luck, and everything in between! Good luck will not get you through if you don’t also put in the work, but we have been fortunate to stumble across the right people at the right time who have helped keep us going. We have been fortunate with excellent employees who seem to love our clients as much as we do. And as I described in the previous section, finding the local resources has been key. Had someone not referred us to Valley Partners for funding, we would have never been able to get off the ground. Finally, Jason and I have hit the lottery when it comes to supportive parents. We have 3 young children – 2 when we started our business. Our families have helped us immensely with child care so we had the time and opportunity to grow our business. I would say having a customer-facing business during the Covid shutdown was not such great luck, but we got through it and came out the other side with more skills than we had going in.
