Today we’d like to introduce you to Ja’Lynne Carter.
Hi Ja’Lynne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had an active imagination. I’ve always loved books. When I was a kid, I use to fly through four to five books a week. I’ve always admired how a writer could make you see what they’ve written. I got into writing during the beginning of Covid. I was in the house, and I’ve ran through the many books that I had so I just decided to write my own story. I’ve always been shy and very introverted, so the thought of posting what I’ve written scared me. Luckily, I have amazing friends who for several months, encouraged me to publish it. I was just going to posted it on Facebook and leave it at that. But they collectively told me I should tell it. Again, being shy, that scared me. Until one day, I just decided to go for it. Zero clue where the burst of confidence came from, but I sat and recorded it and published it, and everyone loved it. People were coming to me saying how they loved it and how their children loved it. From then, I’ve been writing and recording my own stories.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I write and record my own fictional short stories. I write about the many forms that love comes in. When people think of love they automatically assume romance, yes? But, love is much more deeper and complex than that. I write about the love that hurts, self love, romance etc. When I write I put myself in the characters shoes wether they’re an adult or child. I try my best to capture those kind of raw emotions. While, yes, my stories are fiction but the emotion in every single one of them I’ve experienced. So, expressing them in beautiful, relatable ways is always pretty cool to me.
What makes you happy?
My family, friends, and creating makes me happy. My mom is really the reason I’m so into books. We’d go to the library once or twice a week to read and I absolutely loved it. My friends because without them, I wouldn’t have posted my first story. I wouldn’t have had the confidence to showcase my writings. I would still be writing, and all of my beautiful stories would be collecting dust in my notes app. Lastly, creating makes me happy because I get a break from reality. I get to just drift off in my imagination for a few hours and just be and create whatever I want however I want. Creating is very freeing and definitely a form of therapy for me.
