Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Trier.
Jenny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Currently, I zoom every week from NYC with my coach/director Rob McCaskill and the acting class I worked with before Covid. I spent a lot of time in the past 30 years in NYC before the pandemic. NYC has been home away from home. I auditioned and worked there and enjoyed the energy of that busy city. In the past year I’ve taken time out to travel to the Netherlands, spent time in Montana, did a challenging hiking trip in Big Bend Nat’l Park. Last week was another challenge, five days of intensive writing at Hundredth Hill in Bloomington, Indiana with two other writers in residence. I have been acting and singing since childhood, having come from a family of musicians. Born in Michigan, I have lived many places, traveled the world, and moved to Cinci in the ’80s. I still love to travel and do so when every I can. I am a working actor; I love my profession and never plan to retire!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I live a good life! Yes, there have been difficulties along the way but all-in-all I’ve been fortunate. I love my work as an actor. It’s not as easy as it once was now that I’m what Oscar Wilde calls ‘a woman of a certain age’. Still, I have no complaints. I love to travel and do!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an actor. Film and theatre. I was a mezzo-soprano. I sang one season with the Cincinnati Opera Co., sang a concert at Carnegie Hall, have sung in several musicals…my favorites were The King and I and Hello Dolly. I have been told that I’m friendly, warm, cooperative, and intelligent. Non-fiction is my favorite reading, and I like avant-garde movies. I belong to several group in town, so I live a busy life.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I have always been very political! I have an MS in Political Science, besides degrees in music and drama. I see changes in film, theatre, and music that I feel will continue. Both are changing as they become more
integrated into various cultures. This makes the industry more interesting, culturally honest, and has the potential of creating an awareness that we need in order to live together.
