Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherry Larson.
Hi Sherry, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
When we first pulled in to tour the property we now call The Landing at Brush Creek, I knew Adams County would be our new home. My husband, Kirk, felt it too, and it was the rare occasion when he couldn’t contain his excitement. This place was where we would live out Kirk’s famous words, “Livin the dream.”
A hunting property and a wedding venue are tall orders for two “older” adults: one retired executive and his freelance writer wife. But we were desperate to be near our grandchildren, which also meant jumping into a vast endeavor. I imagined the late nights at the fire pit, hanging out with loved ones, and making new friends. And, as I looked at the lake, I saw sun-kissed cheeks and rainy-day fog on the hillside. I instinctively knew the magic here.
The Welsh word, cynefin, means a place where a person feels they belong and where the nature around you feels right and welcoming. For us, it is here – this is where we have landed.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely could have been a smoother road. People fall in love with the property – no problem, but getting them here is a challenge.
We love it here, and we love what we do! The learning curve has been steep, but we have remained joyful. The challenges push us to do better and learn more. I tell our engaged couples, “Enjoy the process.” We must follow that same advice.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We aren’t for the mainstream couple’s wedding or a corporate event where folks want to stay inside all day. I like describing us as a fairytale location – a little paradise.
Nature is our canvas here, and the views are magnificent. The Lodge and the Creekside Cabin are great secluded accommodations and offer the adventure of hiking, canoeing, fishing, bird watching, or indulging oneself in Adams County’s beauty.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
We wanted to be an active part of the community and love enthusiastic folks with creative energy. The best part of The Landing at Brush Creek is fostering fellowship, breaking bread, and making new friends. We only want folks to book with us if we are a fit. We genuinely want people to achieve their event vision, and if that vision lands here – all the better.
