Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Meiners.
Jennifer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been a competitive multi-sport athlete since childhood, so fitness and conditioning has always been an important component to my performance with all my sports. I was a three-sport athlete through high school and ended up at the University of Cincinnati where I was recruited to play for the Women’s Soccer Program and concentrated my area of study to Exercise Physiology and Community Health. This is where I developed a strong passion for strength and conditioning and began to study the strength coaches I had throughout my career at UC. I was blessed to have some of the best Division-1 coaches working with our team and I studied their coaching styles and basically lived in the gym when I wasn’t on the soccer field for practice and games. After graduating college with a Bachelor in Exercise Science, I began to build my resume working for various companies in a training and/or coaching role. I worked years in Corporate Fitness and along the way working for sports performance organization that specifically focused on training athletes in a more specific role directly related to their sport/s. My dream was always to open my own gym, and I knew I needed to pay my dues and learn the business end of entrepreneurship before branching off on my own. In August of 2021, I found a space that I fell in love with and opened MPT Meiners Performance Training. This is where I began to focus on growing a community of people who believed in my concept and a support system that would ultimately help me grow MPT to where it is today. I have an amazing clientele of good folks who know each other by name, think of MPT as their home away from home, and have grown with me from the start. Within the last year, I started to build my team of instructors and coaches which I was very selective with, because your team is so important as they are a representation of your business, and I wanted passionate health professionals with years of experience that would be able to provide a variety of classes for our clients. I am very proud of my team; they compliment the culture we have worked hard to develop. MPT is a place where I want each and every person who steps foot through my door to walk out feeling better than they did when they walked in. Exercise and movement provides so many physical and mental benefits. My goal is to escalate those benefits by creating a family for like-minded people to lean on as their positive support system. I want to help people improve by assessing needs and goals and guiding them into training and classes that fit what they are wanting to accomplish.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I knew what I was getting into when I made the decision to branch off and start my own company. I’d be surprised to find an entrepreneur that will say it was a smooth road in starting a company. What helped me in a way was the years I put in working for various companies and learning their processes and roles on the business end of the spectrum. I was mentally prepared for the work it was going to take in starting my gym and was ready to make the necessary sacrifices it was going to take in order to grow my clientele, build my team, deliver quality sessions, market/advertise, and building my brand. Business ownership is a huge responsibility and when I made the decision to open MPT I was ready to own that responsibility.
As you know, we’re big fans of MPT Meiners Performance Training, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
MPT is a coach and accountability partner for anyone looking to improve their health and overall wellness. We offer private training, group training, sports performance training, cardio-boxing classes, HIIT classes, yoga, and barre. MPT caters to all demographics and populations, we have a strong team of fitness professionals that specialize in specific areas to assist with all levels of fitness. MPT is a welcoming facility with beautiful scenic views, and we know everyone that walks through our doors by name and consider them part of our family!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I learned along my journey is to stay on course with the path I initially designed for myself and MPT. With all the social media platforms out there now, it’s easy to compare or get distracted and that can easily become mentally draining. I made the choice to set myself up for success and to do that I have to stay on course with the path I designed for this business. I believe in what I do, I’m passionate about what I do and do my best to stay in my own lane and keep moving forward.
