Today we’d like to introduce you to Tannayia Thomas.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was a little girl I would make little dances and “attempt” to sing for my family. It grew into a deposed love and talent when my family started to call me microphone. My journey officially started with theater when I was 13, where I discovered how much I loved performing and connecting with an audience. Over time, I would go on auditions around Ohio for commercials, try to join talent agencies & that passion grew into music and songwriting. I then began developing my own sound and identity as NAYIA. I released my debut single, “BRB,” in 2024, followed by my EP “DAY DREAMING” in 2025 and more music throughout 2026. I’ve continued building independently, performing, creating, and learning along the way. Now, I’m focused on growing my artistry, reaching new audiences, and representing Cleveland while creating a career that’s authentically mine.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve dealt with self-doubt, financial struggles, rejection, and moments where I questioned whether I was really meant to pursue music. Balancing school, work, and building my career independently hasn’t always been easy. But every setback has pushed me to grow, trust myself, and keep going. I’ve learned that the journey doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My sound blends R&B, Dream-pop, indie, pop rock, and electronic pop, allowing me to explore different sides of who I am. I’m most proud of continuing to build my career independently and staying true to my vision. What sets me apart is my versatility—I don’t want to be placed in one box. I’m creating my own lane, my own sound, and a world that feels uniquely NAYIA.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have had mentors luckily! I would say Rahkstar was the first person to get me in the studio! Then I would have to say FCONTHEBEAT is a great mentor! He’s also a Grammy nominated producer and engineer!
I would also say Rico Santino had helped me in the booth before and still cheers me on to this day! I’ve had so many great mentors beyond them I’m so grateful for everyone in my life that has helped me get to where I am today.
