Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Mitschke.
Hi Sarah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Started in high-school making chainmail armor. Because I had the chains I started making chainmail jewelry. Started an Etsy shop. Moved to color wire. Then Because I had the new wire I started wire wrapping.
I was able to open a physical storefront that was originally a medieval themed gift shop with dragons and fairies.
That didn’t work so I stopped building chainmail, pivoted from Dragons the crystals, and focus on making sterling wire wrap jewelry.
A year after that we are now moving into a bigger location just across the street from our original location expanding our product line to offer crystal themed soaps and bathbombs.
We should be open by the end of October and ready for the Christmas season. You can see all of our goodies online at www.DifferentBranches.com
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Having to quit chainmail because it physically harmed me to make it. I have workmanship gloves and they have dark red spots on them to give you an idea how bad it was. I coiled, cut, and wove every ring.
No one wanted to pay for all the labor.
The wire wraps were much easier to make and people were willing to pay more for them.
I had loved the collector dragons and fairies we had but they are to expensive and to much space in the current economy we are facing. Maybe someday they will make a return
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m better known for my wire wrap work. My most requested and sold work is my minimalist wire wrap designs. I wrap the wire so fine, and so petite you can hardly tell it’s a wire wrap at all.
You have to look close, and your wallet can certainly tell.
Working with wire Is much cheaper and budget friendly that fabrication or melting down metal because so much more labor goes into shaping the item, filing it down, polishing, etc.
When I build a wire ring, it’s ready to go well with in the week.
Other artists might take several weeks.
And the average custom rings made by me costs between 150 – 250 depending on how fancy you want to get. Other jewelers can get in the thousands for a custom rings, especially ones born from scratch and imagination.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
It’s really as simple as asking. You can walk into my showroom, give me a call, send an email.
