Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Law-Russell.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story has really been one of evolution, creativity, and trusting myself enough to keep growing. I’ve always had a natural eye for fashion and an instinct for putting pieces together, but I started my career on the retail side, working in retail and learning the industry from the inside out.
Over the years, I realized that what I loved most wasn’t simply selling clothing and shoes, it was the connection behind it. I loved helping people see themselves differently, putting together a look that made them feel confident, and understanding that the right outfit could completely change how someone carried themselves.
That realization naturally led me into wanting my OWN store in Beachwood Mall (SO VAIN) and eventually into personal styling and shopping. I wanted to take the experience beyond the store and make it more personal, getting to know each client, understanding their lifestyle and vision, and creating looks that genuinely feel like them. That eventually became the foundation for Styled by Ash.
It’s been exciting to take something I’ve always done naturally and turn it into something intentional and my own. My journey hasn’t been perfectly linear, but every chapter, from working in all avenues of retail to styling clients and building my own creative ventures, has taught me something that brought me closer to where I am today.
And honestly, I feel like I’m just getting started. I’m excited to continue creating, styling, and building something that reflects my personal vision while helping others feel confident in theirs.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey into fashion and personal styling started long before I ever called myself a stylist. I became a mother to two daughters at a very young age,so young that I was still in high school while learning how to navigate motherhood, school, and figuring out what I wanted my own future to look like.
Getting through high school and eventually making my way to college taught me a lot about resilience. I was constantly having to prove to myself and to the people around me that being a young mother did not define what I was capable of accomplishing. That mindset followed me into my career. With every position I took, I felt like I had something to prove and I worked hard to earn my place, build my experience, and learn every side of the fashion and retail industry that I could.
One of the biggest chapters of my career came when I accepted a position in Beverly Hills. It meant stepping away from my family and entering an entirely different world of luxury retail. I was immersed in a level of fashion, service, and clientele that challenged me to grow quickly. At the same time, I was still balancing being a mother and managing life from across the country. It was difficult, but it gave me an education in luxury that I could never have gotten from a classroom.
Eventually, I wanted to create something of my own. That vision became SO VAIN. What started as a weekend pop-up grew into a full inline retail location, and watching that vision become a physical space was one of the proudest experiences of my life. Building a business taught me lessons that working for someone else never could, about leadership, risk, creativity, and what it really means to bet on yourself.
But eventually, I realized that the part of fashion I loved most was always the person. I loved helping individuals find their style, creating looks that made them feel confident, and being part of that moment when someone sees themselves differently.
So I made one of the hardest decisions of my career: I closed SO VAIN and chose to put that energy fully into personal styling and shopping.
Looking back, none of the chapters feel wasted. Being a young mom taught me resilience. Working in different areas of retail taught me the business. Beverly Hills taught me luxury. Building SO VAIN taught me entrepreneurship. And all of it ultimately led me to personal styling.
I think that’s what my story has really been about. constantly evolving, proving to myself what I’m capable of, and having the courage to choose a new chapter when the old one no longer fits. And after everything it took to get here, I’m finally building a career that feels completely aligned with who I am.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Today, my work is centered around personal styling and personal shopping, working with both women and men to create wardrobes and looks that feel elevated, effortless, and authentically theirs.
I specialize in creating complete looks rather than simply putting together outfits. I take into consideration a client’s lifestyle, personality, proportions, comfort level, budget, and how they want to show up in the world. Whether someone needs a single look for an event or wants to completely redefine their wardrobe, I want the experience to feel personal and intentional.
My background in visual merchandising has also played a huge role in how I approach styling. I’ve always been drawn to the visual storytelling behind fashion, how pieces work together, how proportion and presentation can change the way something is perceived, and how an entire environment can communicate a point of view before anyone says a word. That perspective naturally carries over into the way I style my clients.
What I think sets me apart is that I’m not interested in dressing someone to look like everyone else. Trends can be fun, but personal style is about knowing what works for you. I have a strong eye for proportion, styling, color, and the details that can take a look from nice to unforgettable. My retail and luxury experience has also taught me how important the overall experience is, from the first interaction to the final look.
I’m probably best known for creating that effortless, polished feeling where everything looks intentional without looking like you tried too hard. I love mixing elevated pieces with unexpected elements and helping clients step outside of their usual comfort zone while still feeling completely like themselves.
What I’m most proud of is the confidence that can come from the work. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching a client look in the mirror and genuinely see themselves differently. For me, that moment is bigger than the clothes.
I’ve spent years learning fashion from almost every angle, as a retailer, visual merchandiser, luxury sales professional, business owner, and now stylist. That combination has given me a perspective that is difficult to teach. I understand the product, the presentation, the business, the client, and most importantly, the person wearing it.
Ultimately, I don’t want to simply help someone get dressed. I want to help them understand their own style, feel confident in it, and leave feeling like the best version of themselves.
What’s next?
My biggest focus for the future is continuing to grow Styled by Ash into a full lifestyle and styling experience. I want to build something that goes beyond personal shopping and becomes a trusted destination for people who want to elevate the way they present themselves, whether that’s through their wardrobe, personal style, or simply feeling more confident in who they are.
I’m looking forward to expanding the services I offer, working with more clients, and continuing to build a strong presence here locally while also creating opportunities to work with clients beyond Cleveland. I’d love to eventually grow Styled by Ash into a recognizable brand with a larger team and a range of styling experiences that can meet people wherever they are in their style journey.
I’m also excited about continuing to create. Fashion has always been my creative outlet, and I want Styled by Ash to reflect that through styling, visual storytelling, events, collaborations, and eventually other creative projects I have in mind.
For me, the goal isn’t to grow just for the sake of growing. I want to build something intentional, something that feels personal and has a real point of view. I’ve spent a lot of my career building other people’s visions, and I’m excited to put that same energy into building my own.
There’s a lot I’m looking forward to, but ultimately, I’m most excited about seeing just how far Styled by Ash can go.
