Meet Madeline Beck of Interiors By Madeline

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeline Beck.

Hi Madeline, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I became interested in interior design when I was a kid. My parents slowly renovated the home I grew up in, which sparked my interest in picking out finishes and space planning. My high school art teacher was the first person to tell me that interior design was a profession! After that, I quickly realized it was what I wanted to do for a living. I studied Interior Architecture at Ohio University and began my career in design after graduating in 2013.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh goodness! I started my career in corporate design, where I learned so much and am incredibly grateful for the experience. In my 20s, I was traveling to job sites and working 40+ hour weeks—it really was my life. After working for a few different architecture firms focused on commercial design, I realized I wanted to broaden my skill set, so I began taking on residential design projects part-time. During COVID, I lost my job, but I couldn’t help but continue picking up freelance design work. What started as a difficult and uncertain time ultimately pushed me to start my own LLC and build a business of my own.

Interiors by Madeline is a full-service interior design studio specializing in hospitality, commercial, and residential design. My background is rooted in commercial design, and I think that has really shaped the way we approach our projects today. We think about not only how a space looks, but how it functions, flows, and ultimately feels for the people using it.

We’re known for creating spaces that feel layered, thoughtful, and a little unexpected. I love mixing materials, vintage pieces, color, pattern, and architectural details to create spaces that feel collected rather than overly designed.

What I’m most proud of is how much the studio has grown and evolved while still feeling personal. We can take a project from the initial concept and space planning all the way through finish selections, furniture, procurement, and installation. Whether we’re designing a restaurant, salon, workplace, or home, our goal is always to create a space that feels completely unique to the client and tells their story.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me has changed a lot over the years. Earlier in my career, I think I measured it by how busy I was, how much I was working, or what the next big project was. Today, success looks more like being grounded and present, being a mom, and still getting to do what I love every day.

I’m incredibly proud of the business I’ve built, but I’ve also learned that success isn’t just about growth. It’s about creating a life and career that feel fulfilling, continuing to push myself creatively, and having the flexibility to be present for the people who matter most to me. Being able to do work I love while raising my boys and enjoying life feels like success to me.
