Today we’d like to introduce you to Hubal Al-Hirsh.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At first, I started DJing with streaming services, so not mixing. Some people argue that it’s not real DJing, but I do think it’s important to know how to feel the crowd and add to the night with your track choices.
I began mixing when my friend DJ Boywife asked me to DJ BRAT night in 2024. I was and am still so so honored that they saw that worth in me in the beginning when I didn’t have much to bring to the table. I love them deeeep. I didn’t have any equipment, I did it on my computer using Virtual DJ, recorded it, and played it. It was a full house and honestly a night to remember. Lola Vuitton also performed that night.
Shortly after BRAT night, I bought my first board. Ever since then, I’ve been practicing. I’m only getting better, and I was already great when I started.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’d say any new territory isn’t going to be a smooth road. I’ve always challenged myself to try new things and never stay in one spot.
I would say my personal project that I completed, titled “DISCO POP:” was a learning curve.
This was a series of three events that mixed Disco with other genres. This was an artistic expression of freedom of barriers. Unity of people celebrating good energy. The series was DISCO POP: TECH, DISCO POP: ART, lastly DISCO POP: GROOVE, where I went b2b with Shef all night.
Disco can be hard to mix because its so different than your usual “unce unce” vibe. It’s complex and never the same throughout the song.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I would say mixing Arabic music into my sets has been something new that I introduced to the scene. That’s a personal win for me and I take so much pride in doing that. Mixing Haifa with Sophie just makes sense to me. The rebellious energy is the same to me.
I refuse to hold myself in any kind of box. I’ve always been that way since I was a kid: rebellious. If you told me to do something I would do the exact opposite. I feel the same way about genre. I have three official playlists on my Instagram, @hubaaaaal, that show three of many sides to my music taste. I encourage you, the reader and interviewer, to check it out.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Trust and focus on your craft. If you’re doing it for the music, being in the moment, and having fun, then that is what is going to be presented in your energy.
And don’t use AI.
