Meet Ben Mollin of Indiana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Mollin.

Hi Ben, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ben F’n Mollin is a punk-rock,
Cali-sober, non-practicing Jew
who went from being a celebrity
hairdresser to an overweight, func-
tioning alcoholic turned suicide
prevention specialist, endurance
athlete, and motivational speaker.
As the founder and creator of The
Ben Mollin Project, he hosts trans-
formational events and speaks on
topics such as the mindset of a
warrior and finding your power.
When he found himself almost
$100k in debt, he decided he could either file for bankruptcy
or become famous. He became famous after his “Haircuts in
the Summer” music video audition landed him a leading role
on Shear Genius.

After living a life most will only dream about, traveling globally
as an industry celebrity, the pressures of balancing work and
family had turned him into a ticking time bomb.
He hit his breaking point and decided to burn it all down. By 2018,
he deconstructed everything, killing his career instead of himself.
In under a year, he lost 65 pounds and completed his first
IRONMAN in 2019, becoming unrecognizable to those who
had known him. That same year, he ran his first of many ultra
marathons, recently finishing a 130-mile race through the trail
system of northern Arizona. To date, he has clocked over tens
of thousands of miles (and counting).
In 2024, a month before his 50th birthday, he paced a record-
breaking 70-year-old ultra marathon runner for the last 53
miles of a 100-mile race in Central Illinois. Six months later,
on May 9, 2025, he returned to the Sedona Canyon 125 to
finish what he started. What had almost destroyed him at age
49 became one of the most profound spiritual experiences of
his life at age 50.
A walking art project, Ben grew up in the south suburbs of
Chicago in the city of Calumet City, Illinois, with parents who
managed their disabilities and loved without condition.
Ben, his creative-genius wife Angela, and their martial-arts
trained, chess-prodigy son Marco, live part-time in Munster,
Indiana, and love to travel in their RV.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not ! Bumpy af and at times just potholes . When you start a new life at 44 it’s terrifying . Walking away from a “successful” career to answer the question what if is a giant leap of faith . From no income to self doubt it’s been a hell of a ride .

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been a Hairdresser for 35 years and Self Employed for 31 of those years. I am an artist musician, a father and Husband an Ultra Runner, a motivational speaker and the Suicide Prevention specialist. I look at success as having time and health at the same time being Self Employed for as long as I have I have had extreme highs and extreme lows, but at the age of 51 I can honestly say a struggle every obstacle has been a blessing to become the man I was meant to be what sets me apart from the others is I never give up ever.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was tall for no reason incredibly odd, insane amount of OCD and an overactive imagination. I enjoyed learning how to play the guitar. I was obsessed with MTV, especially Guns N’ Roses. Played some sports but when I was diagnosed with a blood disorder at age 14, they want the sports and music became my life. My mom and dad were both educators and both handicap. My mom was physically handicap due to overuse of a drug called prednisone and my dad was mentally handicap with Asperger’s and Savant syndrome. He was a genius but lacked basic life skills.. I had and still do an overactive imagination, which sometimes is a good thing and sometimes is not.
