Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaliyah Burnett.
Hi Aaliyah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was working at a job that I really loved, but eventually I realized that the company didn’t necessarily love me back. At the end of the day, I felt like everything came down to being a number, and I knew I wanted something that felt more personal and meaningful.
I had always dabbled in nails when I was in high school. I never really took it seriously back then and definitely didn’t see it as something that could become a career. Then I became a mom, got married, and my husband encouraged me to leave my job and stay home with our baby.
Being a stay-at-home mom sounds like it would be easy and fun, right? But I’m a very hands-on person. I like creating, staying busy, and doing things with my hands. So I decided to go back to something I already knew and loved: nails.
I started taking clients and slowly building my business. The beginning was honestly hard. For the first couple of years, things felt pretty flat. I wasn’t getting a lot of clients, and there were definitely moments when I wondered if I was really going to make it. But I kept practicing and kept learning. I truly believe practice makes perfect, and over time I started seeing the results of all the work I was putting in.
Today, I’m an award-winning nail tech in my city and the owner of Euphoric Tips. What started as something I picked back up while I was home with my baby has grown into a business and a brand that I’m incredibly proud of.
It took time, dedication, consistency, and a lot of belief in myself. I also couldn’t leave out the support of my husband, because he played a big part in encouraging me to take that first step. Looking back, I’m really proud that I didn’t give up during those first few slow years. I kept going, and now I get to do what I love while building something that is truly mine.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The struggle along the way was trying to mentally stay stable and not give up when you work hard on a nail set for hours and you just know that this may be the one and you wake up the next day and you have two likes a lot of views you don’t feel seeing you start to doubt yourself, but that’s where you need to stay strong the most.
Clientele was really a big one for me trying to get my name out there and get clients. I’m not really the talkative type to strangers, but I have learned that is the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a nail artist and the owner of Euphoric Tips, a private nail salon in Columbus, Ohio. I specialize in custom nail sets, especially freestyle nail art. I love when a client gives me creative freedom because I get to design something that feels personal to them instead of just recreating the same look everyone else has.
I’m probably best known for my freestyle sets and my ability to take an idea, a theme, or even just a client’s personality and turn it into a full nail design. I love detailed work, experimenting with different techniques, and creating sets that people aren’t going to see everywhere else.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is my husband and my son. We are a team, and knowing that I have them by my side makes me feel like I can get through anything life throws at me.
I’m especially grateful for the sacrifices my husband has made so that I could pursue my career as a nail tech. There was a time when he carried the responsibility of working and paying the bills on his own so that I could focus on building my career, and I will never take that sacrifice for granted.
My son is also a huge source of motivation for me. Like any parent, I want to keep going and give him an example of what it looks like to chase your dreams, even when things get difficult. My family reminds me every day why I started and why I can’t give up.
