Pharrah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
About Pharrah Gennings

My name is Pharrah Gennings, and I’m from Amelia, Ohio, a small town just outside of Cincinnati.

I began sewing at the end of 2023, but in 2024, I decided to take my craft more seriously and pursue sewing and fashion as a career. I started traveling to fashion-forward cities like New York, Detroit, and Chicago, immersing myself in different environments, styles, and creative communities that continued to influence the way I see fashion.

Through learning to sew, I discovered something much deeper than simply learning a craft—I discovered an outlet. Creating became a way for me to cope, express myself, and process the things I’ve experienced throughout my life.

Growing up attending predominantly white schools, I was often aware of standing out. Over time, that feeling of being different became something I embraced rather than something I tried to hide. Today, that individuality shows up in the way I create, the way I inspire others, and the way I dress.

Fashion has become more than clothing for me. It’s a form of self-expression, healing, and identity. Sewing gave me a way to turn the things I feel into something I can see, touch, and share with the world.

I’m still growing, still learning, and still finding my voice as a designer—but every piece I create is another part of that story.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road on this journey. I’ve failed many times & that’s not only with clothes. Sometimes I have lashed out in public out of emotion m or been unprofessional in an environment where I still needed to be on my toes.

Which makes me different from others is I’m true hustler. Between determination and wittiness I excel with my goals.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
In business today, taking risks is important. If you want people to notice your brand, you have to be willing to do something different and create something that gets their attention.

I don’t want to build a boring business, and I don’t believe creativity comes from always following the rules. Sometimes you have to break a few of them, challenge what people expect, and be willing to stand out.

For me, taking those risks is more than just getting attention. It shows people how serious I am about my craft. It shows that I believe in what I’m creating and that I’m willing to put myself out there to build something that represents me.
