Life & Work with Brody Alexander of Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brody Alexander.

Hi Brody, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I heard the bagpipes at a very young age at a veterans organization. I picked up the bagpipes at 7 and I first publicly performed when 2 Westerville police officers tragically passed away since then I’ve played for numerous big events I’ve played for a Deestroying 1v1, performed with Piper Ally on my 18th birthday, Played right before the fireworks at Red White & Boom and Feature on NBC 4, performed at an Osu baseball game, revived the Billy Michal student leadership award, flown to Washington DC with honor flight columbus to perform my bagpipes at every stop, Performed for IShowspeed, Competed in Scotland for the World Pipe Band Championships

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The bagpipes are one of the hardest instruments to learn and to play so learning was not the easiest. Especially starting at a young age it was very hard I just knew to stick with it and everything would pay off. Another obstacle/challenge I’ve faced along the way has been receiving hate. It never has gotten to my head though because I know anyone who is hating on it doesn’t understand it or see the vision so they can have their own opinions I just know they aren’t knowledgeable

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I play the bagpipes professionally I get booked to play at weddings, funerals, parties, golf tournaments, and many many more events. I’m most proud of myself for paving my own way doing what I do on the bagpipes I truly don’t think there is anyone in the world doing what I’m doing and I truly want to inspire everyone out there to be yourself and do whatever you want to do in life because that’s what I’m doing I do the thing I love the absolute most and I enjoy every single minute of it. There are many things that sets me apart from others, I play 7 instruments and I absolutely love music I also played 4 sports growing up and I used to do dance. I’m more than just that as well I can talk with absolutely anyone about anything, I love making peoples days better, I make friends everywhere I go, I’m a very positive person so whenever anyone is feeling down or hopeless they sometimes come to me to feel motivated.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was always being on the move doing fun things! I used to go from music lesson to sports practice to hanging out with the neighborhood friends and that truly was a time to cherish because life was absolutely amazing I always loved staying outside playing with my friends until dark every night I possibly could. Another great childhood memory was spending a lot of time with my family members especially the ones who aren’t here today. I have so much love for my entire family I wish we all lived in the same neighborhood so I could see them every single day
