Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Christen.
Hi Erin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began with a desire to make healthier, more natural choices for everyday life. What started as a personal passion for natural wellness grew into a business built on the belief that people shouldn’t have to choose between products that work and products made with ingredients they feel good about using.
In 2016, I turned that passion into Earthganics, beginning with handcrafted personal-care and wellness products made in small batches. As customers discovered the products and shared their experiences with friends and family, the business continued to grow through word of mouth, local markets, and a loyal community of customers.
Over the years, I have continued to listen to what my customers needed and developed products to address real, everyday concerns—from skincare and personal care to sleep, headaches, muscle and body care, outdoor protection, and relaxation. My philosophy has always centered on responsible sourcing, thoughtful formulations, and creating effective products without unnecessary ingredients.
The journey hasn’t been without challenges. Like many small businesses, I had to navigate uncertainty, changing consumer habits, and the enormous disruption of COVID-19. I continued moving forward, adapting the business while staying focused on the mission. Those experiences helped shape me into a more resilient entrepreneur and pushed me to continue innovating rather than standing still.
The company has grown well beyond its original product line. Today, Earthganics offers a broad range of natural personal-care, wellness, herbal, outdoor, and home products. I recently expanded into Home Essentials, bringing the same philosophy into natural cleaning and home care with products designed to be effective without harsh chemicals. I have also continued to expand my reach through retail and wholesale partnerships, with retailers across multiple states, while maintaining roots in the Cincinnati community.
Today, Earthganics operates both at Findlay Market and from its own Cincinnati-area retail location, while continuing to develop new products and expand its reach. I was also accepted into the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, an opportunity I see as a way to strengthen the company’s growth strategy, operations, and long-term vision. In 2026, Earthganics became certified as a Women-Owned Small Business through the U.S. Small Business Administration, opening new opportunities for the future.
What began as my desire to create better choices has grown into a thriving small business with a much bigger mission: to make natural, effective, and conscious products accessible to more people. Through every stage of the journey, I have remained committed to the same principles that started Earthganics—quality, community, and helping people make better choices for themselves and their homes.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Building Earthganics from the ground up has meant navigating the challenges of being a small, independently owned business while constantly adapting to changing customer needs, the economy, and the unexpected challenges that come with growth.
One of the biggest challenges was COVID-19. Like many small businesses, Earthganics faced tremendous uncertainty during the pandemic and had to figure out how to keep serving customers while navigating a completely changed retail environment. I chose to keep moving forward, adapting the business rather than allowing the uncertainty to stop its momentum.
Growth itself has brought another set of challenges. As I have expanded the product line, wholesale partnerships, retail presence, and operations, I have had to learn how to grow the business while maintaining the quality, personal connection, and handcrafted approach that made Earthganics successful in the first place. Today, I have retail partners across numerous states, while continuing to operate my own locations in the Cincinnati area.
There have also been the everyday challenges of entrepreneurship—wearing too many hats, making difficult decisions, investing back into the business, and figuring things out without a large corporate team or unlimited resources. Instead of viewing those obstacles as reasons to slow down, I have used them as opportunities to learn, become more resilient, and build a stronger company.
The road hasn’t been easy, but that is part of what makes the journey meaningful. Every challenge has pushed me to become a stronger leader, a more strategic business owner, and a more determined advocate for the mission that started Earthganics in the first place.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Earthganics?
Earthganics is a Cincinnati-based, woman-owned natural wellness and personal-care company creating handcrafted products designed to help people make cleaner, more conscious choices in their everyday lives. Founded from a passion for natural ingredients and effective alternatives, Earthganics has grown from a small local business into a multi-category brand offering wellness, skincare, personal care, herbal and outdoor products, oral care, and home essentials.
We are best known for our Magnesium Spray, healing salves, natural deodorants, headache and migraine products, and practical wellness solutions that customers incorporate into their everyday routines. We recently expanded that same philosophy into our Home Essentials collection, creating natural cleaning and home-care products that are effective without relying on harsh chemicals.
What truly sets Earthganics apart is that we are more than a natural-products company. We formulate, make, test, package, and sell our products with a hands-on approach, allowing us to stay closely connected to our customers and continually improve what we offer. We also believe natural products should be approachable, effective, and useful—not simply trendy.
Today, Earthganics has grown beyond our Cincinnati roots, with our own retail locations and an expanding network of retail partners across multiple states. Yet our greatest accomplishment is still the trust we have built with our customers. We want people to know that when they choose Earthganics, they are choosing a small, purpose-driven company that cares deeply about what goes into its products, how they are made, and the people and communities we serve.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5–10 years, I believe the natural wellness and personal-care industry will continue moving from a niche market into the mainstream. Consumers are becoming more informed about what they put on their bodies and in their homes, and they are looking for products that are effective, transparent, sustainable, and aligned with their values. Current industry research shows strong growth in natural personal care, along with increasing demand for ingredient transparency, responsible sourcing, and products that support overall wellness.
I also believe we will see the lines between health, beauty, personal care, and home care continue to disappear. Wellness is becoming part of everyday life rather than a separate category, with consumers looking for simple products that support sleep, stress management, recovery, skin health, and overall well-being.
For Earthganics, I see this as an enormous opportunity. We have always believed that wellness should be practical, approachable, and rooted in thoughtful ingredients—not just a trend. As consumers continue looking for cleaner and purposeful alternatives, we want Earthganics to remain a trusted brand that grows with them while staying true to the handcrafted, community-focused values that started the company.
