Hidden Gems: Meet Miljan Krunic of Belcanto Voice and Music Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miljan Krunic.

Hi Miljan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Born and raised in Serbia, I took my first major step toward my career at eighteen when I moved to Graz, Austria, to study music at Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz. During my studies I worked as a singer at Opera Graz and Choir Unsere Klangraum from Leibnitz, Austria. I completed my degree in vocal performance and, shortly after, met my spouse, which led to my move to the United States in 2015.

Since then, I’ve established Belcanto Voice and Music Studio, where I share my passion by teaching voice, cello, and piano to students in Columbus and worldwide. Over the years, Belcanto grew from a small studio of just a few students to a comprehensive music institution that focuses on in-person and online music education for young children, children, young adults, professionals and music enthusiasts alike.

Beyond my studio work, I’m also a choral conductor and vocal coach for the Columbus International Children’s Choir. I lead the Cantiamo choir and work as an assistant conductor for Vocalise choir, helping young singers refine their technique and prepare for prestigious performances and competitions both in the United States and on the world stage. With he choir I participated in competitions World Choir Games Competition in South Africa, New Zealand and Sweden. Worth mentioning is also performance at Carnegie Hall in New York.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Running the business has definitely been a learning process with a steep curve. Balancing the business side while leading the artistic direction of the studio can be quite demanding. Throughout it all, I’ve relied immensely on the support of my spouse, which has been incredibly helpful, and it’s certainly required some significant sacrifices along the way.

Belcanto Voice and Music Studio is a comprehensive music institution dedicated to fostering artistic growth through individualized lessons. We specialize in providing holistic instruction in voice, cello, piano, and musical theater for students of all levels, from beginners to advanced musicians.
What truly sets us apart is our focus on combining the physiological processes of vocal production with the artistic and interpretive aspects of song, including foreign language repertoires. What brings us the most joy watching our students find their unique voices and achieve their personal musical goals, whether that’s performing on major stages or simply enjoying music at home.
We also offer sight-reading instruction using the solfège method, and comprehensive music theory classes that provide the tools necessary to understand what’s behind every piece of music. Additionally, we provide online music counseling and integrate the therapeutic use of music for relaxation into our holistic teaching approach.

I pride myself on having a highly qualified, internationally trained background spanning Europe and the United States. My work as a teacher and conductor at the Columbus International Children’s Choir has gained international recognition with multiple gold medals at the World Choir Games, reflecting my commitment to excellence in choral music and vocal artistry.
