Daily Inspiration: Meet Yasin Cuevas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasin Cuevas.

Hi Yasin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began in 2005 when I moved to Ohio and noticed the limited opportunities available for Latinas in modeling and leadership. I began volunteering at the Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center and created a small modeling program that, with the support of Letitia Lopez, eventually became the Latina Image Leadership Program.

Since then, my work has expanded into education, youth development, pageantry, and fashion. Today, I serve as Assistant Director of Programs at Esperanza, President of Teen Universe USA and Afrikana USA under H&I Grant Productions, and model coordinator for Columbus Fashion Week.

Although my roles have grown, my purpose remains the same: creating opportunities and helping young people and women recognize their confidence, leadership, and potential.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been an easy road. One of the greatest challenges has been dealing with people who did not always appreciate the work, sacrifices, or opportunities provided. However, I have learned not to let disappointment stop me. I remain focused on my purpose, learn from every experience, and always find a way to move forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in modeling, runway training, and social etiquette through classes and workshops. I teach runway techniques, posing, casting preparation, confidence, dining etiquette, and appropriate behavior in social and professional settings.

I am most proud of helping people grow in confidence and recognize their potential. What sets me apart is that I prepare individuals for more than the runway I teach skills they can use in every area of their lives.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have been blessed with many people who have supported my journey. My family is my core and has always encouraged me. Letitia Lopez helped open the door for the program that became the Latina Image Leadership Program, while Zulayka Ruiz, Wanda Ojeda, and Israel Silva have supported my growth in meaningful ways.

I am also grateful for every team member involved in each program and every person who has opened a door or created an opportunity for me. My success has never been mine alone it reflects the support and belief of many people.
