Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Gulley (Fury).
Hi Christopher, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Starting my journey at Ohio Media School (OMS) I was quickly discovered to have a unique voice for podcasting and radio. I was asked by many cohorts to either voice their projects or come on their podcast due to my passion and knowledge for comics and all around nerd culture.
This led to me joining the Circle of Nerds podcast crew ran by Tommy D. That led to me hosting a sister show for Circle of Nerds called “Nerds on Ice” where there would be ono on one conversations with people in nerd culture.
Around the time Covid hit, school became virtual and I decided this was the time to create my own show. Blerd’s Eyeview was born. A podcast and webshow inspired by The Arsenio Hall Show, Saturday Night Live and the Tonight Show.
It allowed me to meet other Black creatives in the nerd space and showcase their projects as well and talk about mainstream and indie comics, entertainment and more from the perspective of the black community hence the word “Blerd” (Black Nerd)
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh no. It’s never been a smooth road. Anywhere from cheap headphones, bad sound and even a bad WiFi connection. It’s definitely been a journey and I would gladly do it again!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well besides doing my podcast, Blerd’s Eyeview, I’m also a voice actor. I’ve done many projects that can be heard through the audio drama series “Talk Story To Me” on Spotify, Done some acting and my own stuntwork on an indie film here in Cleveland and even became the News and Media Lead for an upcoming streaming service that is soon to launch called Blerd Station. A streaming service that will be showcasing and producing animation, anime and live action Black Speculative fiction. ALong with being that lea, I’ve also helped run and produce live productions for Blerd Station in the form of 24 hour livestreams at conventions such as Blerdcon and Atlantic Comicon. So, I guess you can say I try to specialize in a lot of areas. I’m most proud of Blerd’s Eyeview. It’s allowed me to meet some really amazing people known and indie creatives. I think what sets me apart from others is when I do my show, people expect a copy paste or cookie cutter type of interview. That’s something I don’t do. I like to create conversations and really build relationships with my guests
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I never stop trying to get better. Whether it’s equipment, interview style or event the overall quality of my work. I tend to be my own worst critic in that regard but I don’t push myself to the point of exhaustion. I take a step back breathe and come back to it later.
