Conversations with Siobhan McNear

Today we’d like to introduce you to Siobhan McNear.

Hi Siobhan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Siobhan is a storytelling vocalist and genre-blending powerhouse whose artistry reflects a lifelong devotion to music. A graduate of the prestigious School for Creative and Performing Arts and Berklee College of Music, she launched her career in Los Angeles, where she was handpicked by legendary producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins to join the girl group Purple Reign, subsequently signing with Universal Motown.
After more than 15 years of professional experience, Siobhan continued to make her mark as a powerhouse background vocalist for Academy Award–winning Dreamgirl Jennifer Hudson, bringing her rich, soulful sound to stages around the world.
A true musical hybrid, Siobhan’s love for jazz and hip-hop is at the heart of her artistry. Her debut release, Uninhibited: A Tribute to J Dilla, showcases her seamless fusion of both worlds and underscores her position in a lane uniquely her own.
Her performance credits read like a cultural tapestry. Siobhan has been invited to sing for President Barack Obama, President Joe Biden, Herbie Hancock, the late Quincy Jones, Aretha Franklin, Pope Francis, and other luminaries. She has shared the stage with icons including Jennifer Hudson, Earth, Wind & Fire, Ne-Yo, Shania Twain, and Yolanda Adams, among others.
Her career highlights include appearances at the GRAMMY Awards, The Steve Harvey Show, Good Morning America, Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, SiriusXM, the Country Music Awards, The Tonight Show, The Ellen Show, the pilot of The Jennifer Hudson Show, and Dave Chappelle’s Firehouse sessions. She is also featured on the Grammy-nominated album The Gift of Love.
With a voice shaped by experience, authenticity, and a fearless blend of styles, Siobhan continues to evolve, inspire, and redefine what it means to be an artist in her own rhythm and truth.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been full of peaks, terrain, plateaus mountains and valleys but every one has been worth it. I’ve been in this industry 20+ years and it’s really about perseverance and resilience. That’s the remedy and answer to surviving the ups and downs of it all. Ever since high school I have been pushing to be the star I know God placed in my heart to be. Challenged as a singer, a human, and just remaining true to yourself. Humility with background singing, rejection for auditions and taking care of yourself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a singer, stylist and space storyteller. I enjoy bringing anything to life through music, style and interior design. Most proud of my resilience and being a mom. My heart for my work sets me apart. Without creativity I can’t bloom.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Value Respect over fame.
