Conversations with John Dante

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Dante.

Hi John, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started playing music with my Dad when I was very young. I’ve always had a passion for performance and creating art. It just kind of evolved into what it is today. John Dante and the Inferno was formed after High School and during college as an outlet for rock and blues music.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it never is. Dealing with different personalities and lineup changes is always difficult which is why we moved to drum machines in 2020. Budgeting is always an issue when traveling so I’ve sold a lot of collectables over the years. With rock and roll there is always the challenge of substance abuse and partying overtaking the creative process. And being accepted while playing original music is never easy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I write and produce my own original music and we perform a mix of covers and originals. We cover a wide range of genres so no two albums are exactly the same. More recently I have leaned into using a more modern approach to writing and recording while sticking to analog signal chains as much as possible. I like that we utilize the latest in technology while remaining true to our roots. I have been using analog reissue drum machines and synths as well as vintage style mixing boards. I also have been using drum machines with an early AI technology to write and record and I recently switched to FRFR cabs and analog amp sims with digital IR for a mix of vintage and modern.

What does success mean to you?
Success is defined by never giving up. Keep on truckin’ you never know what the future holds.
