Conversations with Eric Porter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Porter.

Hi Eric, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started writing poetry and lyrics at the age of 7 and was able to write full songs between the ages 11-13. I started producing music instrumentals at 14 and was part of a 6 man rap group called Microphone Pressure throughout my high school career. While attending Baldwin Wallace University I became known as a music producer under an independent record label company called Kindred Klub between the ages of 20 – 25 before branching out as independent artists.

As independent artist I started hitting stages on the poetry scene and began to branch out as a lyricist and hip-hop artist. Since then I’ve hit just about every local stage in the city of Cleveland and launch my first company Eroc Beatz Music Production in 2021. Since then I’ve been in community leadership cultivating a variety of events surrounded around creative arts, education, healing and empowerment while maintain a music career as a hip-hop artist, producer and audio engineer.

While building my brand I have produced for a various artists, poets, and R&B artist as well as gained scores for films. I’ve developed my skills to become an MC (Master of Ceremonies) and have hosted other peoples events while curating my own. I have also traveled to various cities to perform and connect including Akron, Columbus, New York, Detroit, Chicago, Eric PA, and Atlanta, GA

Today I am considered a community leader, educator, and revolutionary and Hip Hop representative of Cleveland, OH by those who know my work and reputation. I have experience in teaching Hip Hop from writing to recording along with a variety of other skills in a variety of schools throughout north eastern, OH. I am also the Co-Founder and CEO of Hip Hop Harmony Creative Coalition Community dedicated to upholding the standard of Hip-Hop Culture, highlighting those who positively represent and creating opportunities for creatives to be compensated for their endeavors.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has NOT been a smooth road but I never expected it to be. Throughout my career I have always strived to represent the conscious, positive and spiritual side Hip-Hop artistry while maintaining the core cultural values such as great lyricism and boom-bap type of beats which has shifted out of the mainstream music scene over years. Although hip-hop in the underground rap scene is very much alive it’s not popularized in the music industry today including the local music scene in the city of Cleveland where I grew up. This has made it more difficult for those who don’t want to represent more street, trap, and sexualized to be marginalized in my experience due to the type of music that they make.

I’ve seen artist including myself overlooked due to popularity and taste in music instead of skill and talent. This can happen from people in high positions of power who want to maintain the status quo of club music that they can sell or from people who are judges at a local competition. I believe their are agendas being pushed to keep out communities at a lower vibration making it harder to push music and art that raised that frequency.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in creating music the defies the expectations of the status quo and bringing high quality music production and classic hit records while giving you substances and music you can feel in your soul. Eroc Beatz Music Production was created to go beyond the music and bring whatever is envisioned to life. What sets me apart is my specialty in maintaining the old school flavor while bring you that fresh new school taste. As MC and live performer, my delivery is backed by show tracks that allow the listener to hear me and not my song. I’ve been successful in creating classic records that people can rock to without having to use any profanity or degrading language. I love people and I love for them to participate in the act as I hit the stage and my love for people stretches beyond the stage as I am willing to embrace anyone and teach them what I know. So my work as transcended beyond the stage into community leadership, education, and being a revolutionary in the music scene. I am proud to have the reputation and have even been announced as one of the best lyricist in the city of Cleveland and beyond. The best part is being able to stay humble and know that I can always be better than yesterday.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people probably don’t know that I was straight A student all throughout high school career and was valedictorian of my high school class of 2011 at John Adams High School. I was also still considered cool and didn’t get in one fight.
