Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Liptak.
Hi Ashley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been very interested in creating and fell in love with large scale artwork while working as a graphic lettering artist at Giant Eagle Market District. I was eventually asked to paint a logo for a freelance mural project and that opened up the world of mural work for me. Since then, I am so grateful to have now painted over 15 murals and continued my creative practice by saying “Yes” as often as I can to new opportunities.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Each project is so different and requires a fresh perspective to tackle it! I maintain my usual creative approach to each job and challenges can pop up, but I always try and find a creative solve to whatever that may be. For example, a mural site once asked that I work around an existing painted door that was positioned within the image space for my mural design. I matched my artwork to have a similar color palette as the door and developed a layout that would benefit both my painting as well as the existing one. This project turned out to be one of my favorites I’ve ever made!
Some additional challenges involved in running a creative a business include time management, client outreach, and social media among many other things. I feel so lucky and excited to be able to do this kind of work that these additional aspects of a creative business feel a bit like a game to me! I enjoy doing a bit of administrative work because it allows me to continue painting and drawing so much.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in mural work, window paintings, and illustration, while coming from a graphic design background. You can often find my work featuring themes of lightheartedness and positivity! I frequently use soft pastel palettes, smooth line work, and of course smiley faces on everything! I am most proud of this style as well as my adaptability with which I can create in many different applications and mediums.
