Community Highlights: Meet Regina Carswell Russo of RRight Now Communications

Today we’d like to introduce you to Regina Carswell Russo.

Hi Regina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Journalism gave me the foundation. Reinvention gave me the business.

After more than 23 years in broadcast journalism, including at FOX19 in Cincinnati, I had built a career asking tough questions, earning trust and making complicated stories understandable. I was proud of that work and bold enough to believe those skills could take me somewhere new.

I moved into communications leadership at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Contemporary Arts Center, then bet on myself and built RRight Now Communications into a nationally recognized strategic communications agency. Today, we help leaders and organizations navigate high-stakes moments, protect reputations and connect with communities they can’t afford to misunderstand.

Each transition required me to be a beginner again without discounting the experience I brought with me. And I did it while raising a family and building a life in a region that has given me relationships, opportunity and plenty of reasons to stay invested.

Cincinnati is where I became a journalist, a communications leader and an entrepreneur. Each chapter gave me the nerve—and the preparation to write the next one.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth? No. There’s a lot you don’t see in a résumé.

I’ve reinvented myself several times, and each transition meant leaving something I knew how to do well for something I still had to figure out. Having experience doesn’t make you immune to doubt. Sometimes it makes you more aware of everything that could go wrong. I’ve had to learn how to move forward without having every answer.

Building an agency brought another education: being good at the work and running a sustainable business require different skills. I had to learn to price my judgment, set boundaries, and trust that saying no to the wrong opportunity could make room for the right one.

All of this happened while raising a family and building a beautiful life here. There were competing priorities, uncertain seasons, and times when my confidence needed a minute to catch up with my ambition.

What has helped is being willing to ask for help and remembering how much I’ve already figured out. There was always a body of evidence that proved I could make the NEXT reinvention happen. I still take bold steps. I just bring better questions and clearer boundaries with me.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re a strategic communications agency built for consequential work the kind that requires sound judgment, cultural understanding, and the confidence to tell a client what they need to hear.

We specialize in crisis communications, executive communications and coaching, media relations and stakeholder engagement. Our work helps organizations navigate change, prepare for scrutiny and earn trust with audiences they can’t afford to misunderstand.

Our strength is seeing what others may miss: the question a journalist will ask, the concern employees haven’t voiced, or the disconnect between a boardroom decision and its impact on a community. We bring those perspectives into the strategy early, while leaders still have choices.

Clients hire us for our judgment, discretion, and ability to turn a complicated situation into a clear course of action.

I’m proud of our award-winning work. I’m equally proud of becoming a trusted call before a major decision is made. That’s the brand I’ve built: a communications authority leaders rely on when getting it right matters.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m entering another exciting season, and I have no intention of slowing down. I’ve spent years building the experience, relationships and judgment to do this work. Now I’m thinking bigger about where it can have an impact.

That starts with going deeper in the region I love. As Greater Cincinnati grows, there are important conversations ahead about opportunity, belonging and who benefits from that growth. I want RRight Now Communications helping the organizations shaping our future earn trust, engage communities and bring people into decisions that affect their lives.

I’m also expanding our reach across Ohio and nationally. Leaders are navigating intense scrutiny, divided audiences and an environment where a message can travel farther and faster than their ability to explain it. The need for thoughtful, experienced communications counsel has never felt more urgent.
