Community Highlights: Meet Midori Zimmerman of Glow Where You Are

Today we’d like to introduce you to Midori Zimmerman.

Hi Midori, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I always had a dream of owning a business but did not know exactly what for. Around the same time, I was starting freshman year of high school and I started to have some changes in my skin. My forehead was bumpy and I was very oily. I began to have a lot of breakouts all around my face.

I had always been interested in beauty and makeup and used it to cover up my skin but I felt there had to be something that can help my skin from the inside out that wasn’t makeup. That was when I discovered esthetics and skincare. Once I found out what different types of skincare were and that all products do not work for all skin types, I did as much research as I could to see what would work for me. I began seeing a dermatologist regularly and by senior year I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I decided I wanted to go to business school, get my degree, and have my own esthetics business.

Once I graduated high school, I went to the University of Cincinnati and majored in Entrepreneurship. I had done enough College Credit Plus in high school to where I was able to graduate a year early. I graduated with my bachelors and during my what was supposed to be senior year of college, went to esthetics school and received my Advanced Esthetics License. After esthetician school, I knew I could not go solo right away without some stable income coming in so I got a full time job and began a traveling esthetics business known as Glow Where You Are.

My traveling business provided me with so much knowledge and hands on experience and helped me get my feel off the ground. After almost 2 years since graduating school, I decided to try my luck and open a brick and mortar suite. Glow Where You Are is no longer pertaining to traveling where you are, but meeting where your skin is at and enhancing your skins natural health and glow.

I believe beauty and confidence comes from embracing natural features and enhancing what you already have. With Glow Where You Are, I am helping my clients embrace their skin where its at, and helping them enhance their natural features!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would not say it has been a smooth road, but I also do not feel it has been too bumpy. If anything, it has been a very gradual journey. I take my time for all my decisions and move when something feels right. There have been very slow times where people have not booked for a long time but those who do are met with as much gratitude as possible. The hardest part really is finding ways to keep my name out there so people know I am here and ready to provide services.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business and a Spa Suite in Anderson Township where I provide multiple different types of esthetic services, I specialize in facials, body waxing, and laminations and tints for lashes and brows. What sets me apart from others is my goal to embrace natural features and enhance what you already have by meeting your skin where its at. I provide relaxation and results. I am most proud of the fact that I have made it to my suite solo after gaining experience and listening and learning from other service providers.

I want readers to feel how passionate I am about the beauty industry and how much I want to grow with my brand. I want readers to know that your natural beauty and confidence is strong and embracing yourself is the only way you will find true acceptance. I am a solo esthetician whose main goal is to provide top tier services for all my clients who will continue to grow and glow with me!

What were you like growing up?
I was always very assertive growing up. I knew exactly what I did and didn’t like and was not afraid to say so. While I can be assertive, I also can be a wallflower. I would not say I am introverted at all, but I am observant. I can see when it is a time to be quiet and listen and when there is a time to speak up.

I had a lot of interests as a kid because I wanted to try it all and see what I liked most. I played sports, did 4-H, played instruments, obsessed over movies, tried acting, and spent almost all my childhood outdoors. doing so many different hobbies gave me a wide outlook on life and helped me to find current interests I have today.

Today, I of course am all about the beauty industry, but I do have other interests as well. I am a big traveler and have been to many countries. I also love movies and am always up tp date on new ones coming out.
