Community Highlights: Meet Greg Schenk of The Schenk Company,Inc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Schenk.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
40 years ago, I was living in Hermosa Beach living a life of a early 20s person thinking I would never leave. I flew back to Columbus Ohio for a friend‘s wedding and had a gut Field. Columbus was gonna grow without any money or knowledge of the commercial real estate business or any contacts without owning a car a nice suit or a pair of shoes I moved back to get in the commercial real estate business. I set a very high goal and within two years I was rookie of the year and top five at the largest commercial real estate firm in the country. Nine years later I did the biggest deal in the state of Ohio and left a form my own exclusive tenant Rep firm September Will, Marc, 30 years of having that own business business and I’ve been fortunate to win every award you can win in business business and the industry including two times small business person of the year nominee the 40 under 40 award two-time Midwest Real Estate News micro entrepreneur of the year award for real estate and inducted into the Midwest real estate Hall of Fame in 2016 to differentiate myself I started speaking and teaching around the country. I designed two courses for continuing education and went so good in Ohio. I took at national I’ve spoken 23 different states. I’ve spoke to everyone from realtors attorneys accountant bankers. I do commercial real estate market overviews where I talk about every property type from each person‘s perspective I’ve got 23 different courses, both for residential and commercial brokers as well as teaching people how to do investment property acquisition and then five years ago, I added financial literacy education for both students and adults as that’s one of my passions in life is that everyone can get anything out of life if they just work hard enough and understand personal financial responsibility, financial literacy, education, and a work ethic gonna spend the rest of my life, speaking and teaching helping others get a foundation for lifelong success. I’m a single dad for 18 years so I did all of this winning all these awards while being a single dad probably been the biggest challenge and the most rewarding for me. My son actually take me speaking at quite a few speaking events over the years, I’ve been buying investment property around the country and partnerships, and I’ve met many great people along the way I was a member of SIOR for 13 years had the designation. I took all the CCIM courses and completed that along with over 100 hours of negotiation and investment analysis. I have over 200 hours of postgraduate education which really makes me unique in this business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Anytime you’re ready Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Network Way getting married in divorced in a very short period of time buying an office building and realizing my son was more important selling that building and working from home for 18 years so I could raise him all well still having the eye on the prize I changed from trying to build a company to just being the best solo practitioner I could be and again differentiating myself by speaking and teach teaching. I live very simply I grew up basically with nothing I started working in fifth grade and work two jobs all through high school school in college. I graduated a quarter early. I was so tired of being poor so my main focus in life has been living, simple not having any debt and investing $.20-$.50 of every dollar I’ve made and now the income from those properties and those stocks lets me travel the world and live life to the fullest and teach others how to do this.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
But I’m one of the few active brokers in the country that speaks teaches and trains as well as owns investment property nationwide most people do one, but not all three
