Today we’d like to introduce you to EngKeat Teh.
Hi EngKeat, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story really began with a sense of calling more than a career decision. I’ve always been drawn to understanding why people hurt, why stress affects some more than others, and why certain bodies heal while others struggle. That curiosity — and honestly, a feeling that this work was meant for me — led me into acupuncture and integrative medicine. Over time, I realized that helping people regulate their nervous system, recover from injury, and understand the deeper patterns behind their symptoms wasn’t just something I enjoyed; it was something I felt compelled to do.
Today, my practice blends classical Chinese medicine, modern physiology, and environmental health to help patients rebuild resilience in a world that constantly drains it. I love translating complex science into clear, practical steps people can use to feel better in their everyday lives. My story is ultimately about answering that calling: to help people feel at home in their bodies again, to bring clarity where there’s confusion, and to support healing in a way that feels both grounded and deeply human.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Certainly not. I had tremendous pressures placed upon me. My father, especially, who had an expectation that I would go to medical school and take over his practice. Not to mention, 25 years ago, I was headed into a field that was just emerging in the United States. In other Asian countries acupuncture and herbal medicine was well established for centuries. There were a lot of question marks, and nothing was guaranteed. But I had a deep faith the God was leading me on the right path and that things would work out.
Nobody was hiring acupuncturists, so you basically had to open your own practice. Like many healthcare professionals you are not given any training on how to run a practice successfully so much of it was learn as you go.
Nowadays more mainstream medical establishments are hiring acupuncturists. I was lucky enough to join UPMC Center for Integrative Medicine in Pittsburgh and have been there since 2006. I am now the senior staff acupuncturist there. It is also now common to see other integrative allopathic clinics and the VA hire acupuncturists join the team.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Acupuncture Health Network is built on the belief that healing should feel clear, accessible, and deeply human. I specialize in integrative acupuncture, injury recovery, neurological regulation, and environmental medicine — helping patients understand not just *what* is happening in their bodies, but *why*. My work blends classical Chinese medicine with modern physiology, circadian biology, and lifestyle‑based therapeutics. I’m known for taking time to educate patients, translating complex science into simple steps, and creating treatment plans that restore resilience rather than just manage symptoms.
What sets my practice apart is the combination of clinical precision and genuine presence. Patients come to me after years of feeling unheard or dismissed, and they’re often surprised by how much clarity they gain in a single visit. I’m most proud of building a brand that feels safe, grounded, and empowering — a place where people finally feel seen, understood, and supported in their healing. I want readers to know that my work is not just about acupuncture needles; it’s about helping people regulate their nervous system, recover from injuries, improve sleep, reduce inflammation, and rebuild their health from the ground up. My offerings are designed to meet people where they are and guide them toward long‑term, sustainable wellness.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me most is that I continue to fulfill God’s intended purpose for me. And that I continue to lean on Him for guidance and direction so that he can direct my path. I believe everyone is placed on this earth for a purpose. I am beyond grateful that I get to help others scrub the mud from their inner glass (so to speak) so that their true inner light can shine through.
When we are not struggling with pain and illness that allows us to listen to our hearts and use our brains to follow through with action. We are here to learn how to love and be loved.
