Check Out Myranda Steffes’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myranda Steffes.

Hi Myranda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my business The Crayon Cauldron in March of 2025. I had recently become a stay-at-home mom and missed the connection and interaction with the outside world. I had no idea that selling personalized crayons and homemade pinatas would turn into what it has. I attended my first craft market in New Richmond and was introduced to a new world of creative and like-minded people. I eventually expanded from markets to craft birthday parties, which is still one of my favorite things to host.
I was looking for more ways I could get myself and my kids out of the house and stumbled upon an art studio, The Artful Gathering in Bethel. After attending multiple classes with my kids, I finally got the nerve to reach out to the owner Jessica to see if there were any opportunities to teach art at the studio. I held my first scrapbooking workshop in November 2025. After hosting multiple workshops in Bethel, I wanted to expand and looked into other studios around the Cincinnati area, that’s when I learned about Nakama Studio. I met with the owner Julie and began my journey teaching and learning from both studio owners. We have created many programs for all ages including summer art and steam camp, ladies craft workshops, an art and sensory playgroup, and much more. Teaching art truly brings me so much joy, but I love seeing people creating together most of all.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth journey. There have been classes where it’s just me and my family creating together due to low sign-ups, and moments where I still get imposter syndrome. There is so much that outweighs all of the struggles, like when kids tell me, “This is the best class ever”, seeing toddlers paint or play with play dough for the first time, or watching moms who never get a night out sit and laugh with friends while learning a new hobby. Even through all the struggles I feel incredibly lucky to have found a way to turn my passion into my career.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The Crayon Cauldron is a creative arts and entertainment business. I host craft workshops, toddler art and sensory playgroups, craft birthday parties, homeschool art class, ladies’ nights, and much more. I grew up with a very creative family and was lucky to be taught all sorts of hobbies from my grandma, I now consider myself a hobbyist, dabbling in all sorts of media but my favorite thing to do currently is watercolor. I think what sets my business apart from others is that I am mobile. Not only do I work at two different studios, but I also have the option to come to you! Whether it’s for a birthday celebration, work party, bridal shower, or just some friends hanging out, I can bring the fun to you! I am open to the party host picking pretty much any craft and will bring all the supplies to them and their guests. I want every event to be an experience more than just crafting. I often provide light refreshments at events as well as fun themed decor. I want everyone to not only learn but enjoy connection and community with other people.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned since starting my business is of course perseverance. There have been many times I felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere or was missing my mark with what the community wanted to see event wise, but with each set back I have learned something along the way. Some have been simple lessons like always making sure I have more supplies, others have been more complicated like learning ticketing sales, self-promoting, researching events going on in town in hopes that my ticket sales won’t be affected, I have had to learn these things the hard way, and believe it has made me a stronger and more knowledgeable business owner in the end.
