Check Out Kimberly Novak’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Novak.

Hi Kimberly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Reflecting on my journey to becoming a Christian author fills my heart with gratitude. My story began during a time of healing after a personal storm. God guided me onto a purposeful path and surrounded me with people chosen to help shape me as His child. Along the way, I uncovered a spiritual gift that had long been hidden, and writing for God’s glory became my calling.

Since then, I have used my God-given talent to introduce others to Jesus through online prayer ministry, spiritual direction, and writing for both children and adults. Spiritual writing fuels my passion to share Jesus’ light and love with all people.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say my road to becoming a published author was easy or difficult; it was a journey where I embraced many victories and defeats. Learning to choose confidence over self-ridicule was probably the hardest part. Over the years, I have learned to trust my intuition and listen to the voice of God.

My biggest challenge, as of yet, has been recovery from a traumatic brain injury sustained in January of 2024. I praise God that I survived, but feared I would not be able to produce the quality of writing I had before.

I am happy to say that my healing journey has been successful with only minor cognitive deficits. After a three-month recovery, I put my pen back on the page and gave God all I had. The process of writing has changed for me, but God has allowed me to pick up pretty much where I left off before the brain injury.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I answered God’s call to become a Christian author by sharing my testimony through the voices of God’s tiniest creatures—the little bugs of the earth. I wanted my story to appeal to children and their families, so I crafted tales that spark wonder and invite discussion. I believe my books are enriching reads for children and adults alike. Jesus instructs us to live with childlike faith, and I leaned into that guidance as I created each character, scene, and storyline.

I find inspiration on daily walks with my dog; I can easily picture little bugs doing silly and amazing things as I glance down at a blade of grass or look up at a cloud-filled sky. Embracing my childlike faith is a special quality that sets me apart from others. Not everyone can look at an ugly mushroom on the ground and imagine it six feet tall with an up-to-no-good no-see-um perched upon it, waiting to create havoc on the friends of the forest.

Whether it’s a caterpillar, grasshopper, and snail taking shelter from the rain beneath a mushroom, seeing God’s light reflected in the glittering smile of a ladybug, or experiencing the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly alongside a best friend—these are just a few of the delightful adventures my insects encounter.

In my current titles, Bella’s Beautiful Miracle, Firefly Fred & The Rainbow Rescue, and Bella’s Fruitful Adventure, the members of Royal Forest Meadow embark on God-given treasure hunts that encourage readers to recognize and celebrate how God moves in our lives. Each title includes scriptural instruction, valuable lessons in courage and trust in God, and encouragement to embrace daily prayer and a relationship with God.

Reviewers have commented that Jesus shows up big in every chapter and is clearly present in my life as I share my experiences through my characters. I feel most accomplished and comfortable in knowing I am walking in God’s will, as I look upon the smiles of those reading my stories and hearing how my characters have brought them closer to God.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Daily, consistent prayer and dialogue with God are crucial to my success as a Christian author. God is my mentor; when it comes to writing, I rely completely on his guidance to choose topics, create characters, and shape the plot. Daily prayer helps me recognize what God is showing me, or what He wants me to interpret. I lean on God’s word as I pray and incorporate inspiration that comes through conversations, events, dreams, or random thoughts as I tackle a writing project.

Additionally, seeing things through a child’s eyes is extremely important when writing children’s Christian fiction. In my latest book, Firefly Fred & The Rainbow Rescue, I needed to look at a cloudy sky and envision a firefly, a butterfly, and a caterpillar, all perched inside the cloud, to articulate what God wanted me to share in that scene. If I couldn’t think like a child in that moment, I would not have been successful in creating the scene God intended.

Lastly, having a listening presence is very important as a Christian author. God will often send His ideas for my work through conversations, relationships, and experiences. I must have listening ears and an open heart to discern what God is sharing with me in any given moment.
