Today we’d like to introduce you to James Oh.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Where I began, my story is of enormous importance to me. I was born in Anchorage, Alaska. Some call it The Last Frontier, The Land of the Midnight Sun, but I call it home. Growing up in Anchorage, many people pick up photography as a hobby to showcase our unique natural landscape and scenery. At 14, hoping to capture Alaska’s natural beauty, I stole my younger brother’s Nikon D3200 and tried to carve a name out for myself. I still, to this day, don’t think of myself as a photographer, videographer, or content creator. I love making meaningful and lasting connections, so my camera is an excellent doorway to making new friends!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like everything you love, it comes with its challenges. I come from a business background, so I understand many facets of being a successful digital nomad. But If I had to pick two of my major pain points. It would be how I post consistently without burning out and falling out of love. Another is posing people. We are all different people, with different personalities and different bodies. Learning how to comfortably pose your models is one of the most challenging skills I had to learn. Tip: Capture movements and ensure everyone is relaxed; nobody likes stiff posing and awkward silences.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a person who wears many hats, but I’d say that the three most giant hats I wear are marketing specialist, photographer, and content creator. My full-time job is being a marketing specialist who knows how to promote a brand and fulfill any KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). Secondly, I’m a photographer who likes to believe I’m the person you call to help capture a significant part of someone’s life. Lastly, I’m a content creator; I want everyone to see my process and if I can influence one person to take that jump to go after something they are passionate about. It was all worth it.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I am the middle child of three brothers. It’s been a while since we’ve all been under the same roof and enjoyed similar hobbies. I must’ve been in about 3rd or 4th grade, and we just been gifted three Lego Bionicles (Please google yourself this and get one if you haven’t ever played with one.) It was just a simple time when we were running around the house and outside, creating these mystical locations in our minds and playing with our Legos. Now my brothers and I are all thousands of miles apart and have grown to like different things, but I’ll never forget where we came from…Lego Land! Just kidding, the suburbs of Anchorage, Alaska.
