Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather OBoyle Erman.
Hi Heather, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I was a young artist who moved from Ohio to LA with fresh eyes and an open heart. After a couple of jobs that were unfulfilling in the entertainment industry, I left my corporate job and put myself through makeup school at 28, with an “it’s now or never” attitude. I worked in TV, Commercial & Film for 12 years doing everything from natural corrective beauty to high fashion to blood and gore SFX (which I actually LOVED). I learned the power of creative transformation. It can start outside and seep inward, or it can happen inside and translate outward. At this stage, I was witnessing outside in. I’d turn someone into a zombie or creature, and they would take it on so much more profoundly than without the makeup. The makeup was the crutch. The same would happen with beauty. I would enhance someone to where they looked and felt fabulous, in turn boosting their own self-confidence. They would carry themselves and speak differently. This isn’t just fluff. This is powerful stuff. My husband and I had a baby and decided to move to Ohio to live the simple life surrounded by family. In a community where would could grow some of our own food and have a yard rather than a hallway and elevator when we opened the door. While I’ve always had a passion for health and nutrition, it wasn’t until my second baby was born breech (quite a surprise until 37 weeks) I knew the medical interventions could cause her health issues for the rest of her life, with an immature gut, and immune system so tiny already being pumped full of meds, antibiotics, and no mother’s flora at birth. She suffered food allergies and, at times debilitating eczema; I committed to solving her puzzle through load of research, trial and error, and my coursework at The Institute of Integrative Nutrition. Thus began my health coaching career. I now work with mothers, not only on their health in terms of nutrition but in terms of overall balance. Stress management, mindset, mindfulness, etc. There are so many more pieces to the puzzle than just exercise and nutrition. Especially for moms. Moms have accepted this role as overwhelmed, overworked, and putting themselves last. I want to help them create loving boundaries, find some joy, and not deplete themselves in the process. So today, I help women transform from the inside out AND the outside in. I feel eternally blessed to be able to do what I do, and help make so many women feel worthy and beautiful in whichever order it happens.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Our move from LA to Ohio was a really tough one. We both left without jobs, and while I was having trouble getting pregnant and dealing with fertility treatments that were not successful., living with my parents far longer than anticipated, jobless, and infertile with a 2-year-old definitely tested our marriage, my confidence, and our sanity. I started working with other makeup artists taking on weddings. I met an amazing food stylist through another wonderful artist who introduced me to some local studios and photographers, and I began to pick up my own gigs. When I left LA, I didn’t know for sure that I’d ever do makeup professionally again, but as of March 2021, I have my own LLC. Heather OBoyle Holistic Beauty and Wellness LLC., and am happier and more prosperous than I was hustling in LA. And I get to coach as well. It’s just beautiful the way the world works. I am so so grateful.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a makeup artist and a holistic wellness coach. I specialize in transformation. I love making women FEEL beautiful. Of course, they can look beautiful with makeup, but FEELING beautiful gets a whole new ball rolling. They look at themselves in a different way, and feel a new sense of value; it’s easier for a women to say, “wow! beautiful! I look amazing! thank you!” when it’s my work. Even though it’s her face, she somehow gives me the credit and can appreciate “my work,” which is just her own beauty. It’s a funny little paradox. And on the other hand, when I coach with a woman, all this transformation starts on the inside and slowly comes to the surface. And I always offer her a complimentary makeup session at the end of our first block of coaching to polish this diamond we’ve excavated. It’s truly the most rewarding thing for me.
What makes me most proud is the feedback from my clients telling me how amazing they feel and look, and sometimes it comes in the form of tears. Sometimes people thing makeup is fluff, but I’ve seen it change some women’s entire perspective and vision of herself, come out from hiding and literally give her wings.
Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I do makeup for anyone and everyone. I do a lot of bridal clientele, makeup for photos, events, print, and commercial work. And possibly my favorite, training and makeup classes. I offer one on one classes in my studio where we go over a doing a face from skin prep to a natural look to an evening look. We look at the client’s makeup bag, walk through how to use what she has, and I make suggestions for products that would be useful that she doesn’t own. I help her make these purchases as well. I am available for group lessons as well.
I am open to collaborating with other wellness-minded people or businesses for pop-ups or talks.
As far as coaching, most of it is done via zoom, although I am open to in-person meetings with local clients and presenting to small groups on wellness and beauty.
