Exploring Life & Business with Jennifer Eisenstein of Dinner to Doorbells

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Eisenstein.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
We are a meal prep & deliver company serving Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky. We are two working moms who realized that busy parents were having to choose between spending time with their families and making healthy meals at night and we wanted to help make that easier. My business partner, Ali, was also a competitive powerlifter who not only wanted the convenience of heat & eat meals but also had special dietary requirements for her training. We have worked to make our company something that works for everyone by making our menu so customizable.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t know if any small business owner can consider the road “always smooth”, but Ali and I have worked out a lot of kinks along the way and have gotten to a place we feel pretty proud of. My background is in business & marketing, Ali’s is in food and catering, and my husband Rob who acts as our finance manager has a background in finance and accounting. We make a pretty good team. This year, like every other food business around, high food costs and labor shortages have been nagging at us but we’re confident we can work through this and get to the other side.

As you know, we’re big fans of Dinner to Doorbells. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We specialize in meals that are fully prepped and ready to and eat with no chopping, shopping, or clean-up. We offer foods for a wide variety of needs, from family style meals that can be customized for a family of 1-6, or a variety of dietary options including low carb, keto, vegetarian, vegan, etc. While we started as a company that was really built for busy families, we have realized that a lot of our customers are also young professionals, elderly people & single people and it has been fun listening to what they want from us and adding those things into our menu. We love that a family can order pasta for the kids, a delicious meal for their vegan mom, and meat and potatoes meal for dad all from the same place without all the extra work that would go into preparing all these extra meals. We absolutely thrive on feedback and do our best to always listen to what our customers are looking for and give that to them the best that we can!

How do you define success?
I define success at doing what I really enjoy doing each day. I see it when we get emails from our customers about how much time we gave them back to spend with their families or how they tried a new healthy food and had no idea they loved it so much (we hear this a lot about our tofu!) We would really love to expand at some point in time, but right now we are happy giving the best food we can to the awesome families we serve.
