Today we’d like to introduce you to Paris Huckaby.
Hi Paris, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have wanted to do Runway and model for as long as I can remember. When I was 3, I used to go put my mom’s heels on and walk through the hallway. I am a third-generation model but the first in my family to make it as far as I have. I did my first photoshoot at 14 with my cousin and best friend in the middle of the park. Everybody loved the pictures, but we didn’t have money for modeling school at the time; my mother taught me what she knew. My next shoot didn’t come until prom in 2016; when I saw the pictures, I couldn’t believe it was me; I knew then that I wanted to do this. But I didn’t do my first runway show until 2019; a lot of my modeling was just print. I took all the training my mom taught and laid it all out on the runway, and since then, I’ve been going strong; I’ve walked in NYFW and heading to Paris Fashion Week in the fall, I’ve even walked for Iconic brands such as Cross Colours. I also teach what I know, I was the head modeling coach for one of our brands here in Cincinnati, Me By Lee; I was blessed with the opportunity to coach over 45 models. Since then, I’ve gotten a bunch of opportunities to coach other models. I can’t wait to see how far my modeling journey goes.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, not at all; I’m a mother of two daughters, they are 1 and 3. Going through postpartum depression after my first and facing body issues due to not looking the same as I did before. Finally, getting my body back to just to get pregnant again messed with my mental really bad. I was terrified no photographer would want to work with me, even though that’s far from the truth, my photographers are my brothers and sisters, and I love them all dearly. They’ve made my journey out of retirement after maternity so much smoother.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Professional Model and Modeling Coach. I love print, but I specialize in runway. I am the most proud of my resilience. And what sets me apart from others is my ability to break the social norms of a runway model. All shapes, sizes, colors, and any and everything in between are welcomed on my runway, always have been, and always will be.
