Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Adamo Hunter.
Hi Sara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The beauty of art has always made its presence felt in my life. While in grade school, I began selling my work at holiday craft shows. During high school, I participated in their art major program, which included metalsmithing classes. I continued my studies at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Cuyahoga Community College, and Kent State University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jewelry/Metals/Enameling.
After receiving my bachelor’s degree, my career path took a different turn as I began working in the non-profit sector as a professional fundraiser. It was very fulfilling to raise over $25 million dollars for local non-profit organizations over the last 15 years. I because a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) in November of 2019.
My dream has always been to be a full-time artist while raising a family. We were blessed to have a son during the pandemic. It was a scary time to be starting a family and not what we would have imagined, but the timing was RIGHT. THIS was our sign to re-focus my career in art. I took a step back from non-profit administration at the beginning of this year to focus my time, energy, and spirit on my family and my art. I am still helping local non-profits through independent consulting, but my heart is back into art.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Balancing re-starting my art business while raising a toddler is definitely a juggling act. We have been creative on how to carve out time to focus and produce while maintaining a social media presence and branding Sarnico Designs. I am grateful for the love and support from family and friends who are helping to make this possible.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
All jewelry created by Sarnico Designs are made with .925 sterling silver sheet, wire, and components. This is something that sets us apart from the mainstream market, along with the abstract minimalist style. I believe in staying true to the materials of the trade and producing the highest quality jewelry available at price points that make these works of art accessible to a variety of clients.
Created in small batches, Sarnico Designs is committed to making pieces that are as unique as the individuals that wear them. Components of these pieces of jewelry include glass and Lucite beads, hand-drawn and hand-cut sterling silver sheet, as well as laser-cut acrylic and wood from my hand-drawn and digital designs. Fine silver pieces are made upon request, as well as enameled copper projects.
My favorite pieces to create are custom works. Bringing the vision or idea of a friend to life through art is very rewarding. Receiving pictures with my pieces being worn by someone who is smiling with happiness is one of the best feelings. I strive to help others express their personal creativity and style through accessories that unleash their true selves.
Any big plans?
My longtime friend, and fellow artist Ashley Gerst (MFA) and I just launched a new collection of jewelry. The Ashara Collaborative line allows us to combine our artistic talents and strengths in design, production, metalsmithing, and marketing. The focal point of these works are created by laser-cut wood and acrylic pieces. This results in hand-crafted pieces that are easy to wear and allow the individuality of wearer to shine through.
