Check Out Corey Winborn’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Winborn.

Hi Corey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As an unpopular school kid, I started sewing self-taught to change already made items and eventually was able to create items from scratch no pattern, just measurements, and creativity. I later started being requested to do it for pay and created Designs by Winborn.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not a smooth road at all. Nobody believed in me at first. I was a heterosexual male interested in not just looking good but creating the item to look good in, unheard of at the time. It was hard for my family to wrap their heads around a dreamer. They only knew you go to school or get a “good” job. I actually tried the job route. I could not find fulfillment in that route. I knew I had talent, but I needed to build the foundation for my business. 1st keep faith in myself whether people believed or not, second treat clients like family and show them you would do your best to work hard for them. Last make good chess moves and always think 5 steps ahead.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a tailor a designer, and a stylist. I actually sew and make things from scratch. I’m known for creating what’s next not following trends. I’m most proud of all the young and established designers I’ve mentored and advised. I had no one to help me, so it’s important to me that I end the cycle of only helping yourself in my industry

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I learned that even in the worst of times faith in God and being prepared will get you thru the worst of times
