Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Adam Metheney.
Hi Matthew, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Matthew Metheney, I was raised in a little town in southeast Ohio called Salem Center. Once on my own, I moved to Rutland where I was an active member of the Rutland Vol. Fire department for 18 years. My dad Terry Metheney got me interested in music at a young age where I would set and watch him play guitar and sing… in my 20s I started getting into bands and playing funny songs just for fun. Then I started going to open mic night at the Court St. Grill in Pomeroy Ohio where I learns how to be on stage and get over that fear… fast forward a couple years… I had 3 really close friends pass away. So, I wrote a song for them called “Drunk on Memories“ as a tribute to them. It got a lot of radio play and picked up the interest of well-known internet radio DJ “The Iceman” which lead me to playing Cmafest in Nashville in 2016. Then legendary music producer Doc Holiday reacted out to me about cutting a record so we cut 2… two great albums one fantastic music video and 2 silver global music awards and a list of opening acts that I’ve got to open for all over the United States. I have a 5-piece band made up of Bj Leach, Danny Turner, Jeff Lathey, Don Whan, and Chuck Davis… You can check out my website for videos music photos and a list of where we will be playing. Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is easy. You have to put in time money and effort. For the most part, it’s been smooth sailing but not with ups and downs but that part of the music life. Most ppl only see you for that time you’re on stage they don’t see the behind-the-scenes work that goes into that short amount of time on stage, that work goes unseen and unappreciated a lot. I tell my guys when it’s not fun anymore we are done cause that’s the best part of it all the fun we get to have
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I write my songs; I play guitar and I sing. The thing I’m most proud of is my music video for the simple fact “Back to Memories“ is the only song I didn’t write my dad wrote it. And he plays the main role in the video. The video is up for video of the year at this year’s JMA Awards at the Grand Ole Opry. To see a song my dad wrote and is in the video played at the Opry is by far the most proud moment I’ve had thus far
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Seeing someone relate to a song I wrote… to see someone look at us and you can see by the look on their face that it means something to them. To me that’s successful. When words can’t speak music will

Matthew is a local hometown proud fella and we are all proud of him! He is just as humble in real life as he is on stage and during every interview! I’m proud to call him local Meigs County boy! I first saw him at Court Street bar and grill and I’ve supported him since. We have a lot of local talent yet only few branch out as he has. I just wanted to cheer him on & let him know that no matter what happens, when he’s back home we’re going to look forward to seeing him just being a hometown citizen and maybe having the pleasure of cheering him on at the grill for old times sake! Way to go Matthew Adam!
