Meet Xposyur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Xposyur.  

Hi Xposyur, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My musical journey of speaking wisely started with courage and a pen. Those two words made me into the artist I am today. My first instrument was the upright bass in elementary and middle school. From there I was intrigued by drums so I started playing kit around age 13 at my church at the time. Then life pushed me to a pen. So, here we are! I wrote behind the scenes for about 7-8 years before I actually recited my first piece in like 2008-ish. Took a 2-year hiatus kept writing then came back in 2010 and been perfecting my craft ever since. 

Funny story- I started off writing on the walls in my bedroom-787 Ruth. So sick they tore that house down. The deal my mom made with me was: I’ll buy you the oil pastels to write but if they don’t come off my walls-somebody gone pay for it. The somebody was me lol. My first ever poem was written a few weeks after my great grandfather passed away in 2002. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has anything ever been smooth?! No, it wasn’t. I tell people all the time poetry saved my life. Writing is literally therapeutic. Some view it as a waste of time-consuming when it’s actually a release- mentally physically spiritually, emotionally all that. 

Just a few internal struggles that poetry helped me through were low self-esteem, being suicidal, feeling misunderstood, having a mother with health issues, a father with addiction issues, and being incarcerated. Whew, let’s pull outta there but just learning how to navigate through these things with courage with a pen has been a journey of trauma and triumph. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So, I do work for a company that I don’t want to talk about. Because, yeah. I’m hoping and praying to be full-time creative again very soon. 

Outside of a job, I own Xtreme Focus LLC. It is a Content Management Company specializing in handling small businesses’ social media accounts. I started this after falling in love with a CMS class I took while I attended Ohio Media School. S/O Mr. Reyes. We’ve been in existence about a year and a half and doing ok. I admit I could be doing better but it is a learning process. 

Another avenue I explore is motivational speaking in Ohio -both private and public schools. I also work with alternative/ technical schools and Jobs for Ohio Graduates. These young adults whom I call my babies need to see you can make it whether the hand you were dealt is good or bad. That’s a huge part of why I go so hard- you can turn your pain into passion and purpose. The paycheck and/or reward that comes with it is just an asset. I don’t believe all youth and young adults are bad they just don’t have safe spaces. I take that personally which is why I create them as often as I can. 

I’m more so known for the spoken word. It just hit me so hard to me! I am currently rebranding myself as a soul artist-which means I can hop in and out of any genre. 

I am most proud of honestly myself for just never giving up. Life is living’. I’m actually proud of the work I’ve done in my city through my gifts and talents. I’m honored that my babies(what I call my high schoolers) remember things I’ve spoken to them years later. Real content never dies and the best content is yourself. 

This leads me to the last question-my content sets me apart. All a person has to do is share themselves-their story in the best way you know how and it’ll resonate. I don’t sugarcoat what I go through. The streets are changing for real. Bullets don’t get a name they just looking for flesh. Be as real as possible with your audience. 

What was you like growing up?
Growing up I was more social than my big sister. I was the annoying little sister. Probably still am! I played a lot of basketball-Ed Davis, Miller South, Roswell Kent Garfield. My favorite was AAU ball though: Ohio Wildcats. I was a cheerleader too. I was raised very family oriented so I spent a lot of time with my Sibson. As stated before very low self-esteem, bullied a bit. Very sweet though. I can’t be mean. I have no mad bone in my body but I can keep you at a distance. All love though. I’m very nurturing my folks say. I hate anything dirty. I don’t have OCD but my folks would say otherwise. 

Fun fact- I am a slight history geek- love social studies. I like to read. I’m into art museums. I’m into anything nature…well most things water, trails, etc. I got a 3-ride rollercoaster limit. I love ice cream. I love sweet potato pie.
