Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaytee Newton.
Hi Kaytee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been fascinated by the hotel and travel industry since I was a kid. I remember my uncle working at the Westin in Atlanta when I was very young and being so amazed by it when I got the chance to stay there with my family. I went on to study Hospitality and Tourism in college, with the goal of working aboard the Disney Cruise Line. Life happened and I wasn’t able to finish with my degree, but I was able to take what I learned and move forward in my career. It wasn’t until a friend of mine, also named Katie, started working for Travelmation and sharing how much she enjoyed it that I really considered being a travel agent. She has been such a source of light and knowledge throughout this process. I couldn’t do it without her! Now I’m learning what it takes to be a successful agent and I’m really enjoying helping others go on their new favorite adventures.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I only just became a licensed agent in March, so I’m very much still learning! The biggest difficulty right now is trying to find the time to set aside in my day-to-day to sit down and work on training and calls. Also, having to deal with the feeling of rejection when you spend time working on quotes for a client and they either decide to book on their own, or ghost you entirely! You learn very quickly that you need to have some thick skin so you don’t take everything to heart.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a travel agent with Travelmation, I am able to work with clients at no cost to them to plan their vacations. We are able to book all different types of trips, but I consider Disney trips to be my specialty.
I am a former cast member of The Walt Disney Company and visit the park at least once per year, so I am very knowledgeable on all things Disney. I’ll admit, there are definitely things that I don’t always know, but I absolutely love taking the time to learn everything I can to be able to answer any and all questions my clients throw my way.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
In addition to Disney and traveling, a huge passion of mine is hockey. I currently work for the Columbus Blue Jackets as a member of the Goal Patrol. We are the team that hypes up the crowd, selects fans for on-ice challenges during intermissions, and tosses T-shirts and other prizes into the crowd!
